On September 4th, the Department of Education of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province announced that it will implement the teaching of local education in the three final grades of each school year in the 2024-2025 academic year, using new materials recently approved by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training issued decisions approving local educational materials for grades 5, 9, and 12 for use in educational institutions in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on August 23 and 26.
Specifically, the newly approved local education materials for grade 5 include 47 pages; grade 9 includes 75 pages; and grade 12 includes 76 pages (excluding the cover), with content that helps officials, teachers, and students gain a systematic understanding of the culture, history, traditions; geographical, economic, and career guidance issues; political , social, and environmental issues... of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, in accordance with the local education content stipulated in the 2018 General Education Program.
According to the Department of Education and Training, immediately after the approval decisions were made, the locality issued directives for implementation throughout the province, applicable from the new school year 2024-2025.
For example, establishing training teams of presenters; organizing training courses on local educational materials for grades 5, 9, and 12 throughout the province to ensure that administrators and teachers in educational institutions have a comprehensive understanding; using local educational materials to develop plans and apply teaching methods and organizational forms according to an integrated approach.
Directing the Departments of Education and Training and high schools to develop and implement plans for teaching local educational content; ensuring 35 lessons per school year in grades 9 and 12; as well as assigning teachers to teach appropriately...
"This is the first year implementing the local education subject at these three educational levels according to the newly approved materials, and on schedule. Thus, all local education materials at all levels in the province have been completed and incorporated into the curriculum," said Mr. Nguyen Van Ba, Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Education and Training.

These are fundamental or current issues concerning the local culture, history, geography, economics, society, environment, career guidance, etc., supplementing the general compulsory education content standardized nationwide.
Through this, students gain knowledge about their living environment, cultivate love for their homeland, and develop an awareness of the need to learn and apply what they have learned to contribute to solving problems in their hometown.
In this system, local primary school curriculum content is integrated with experiential activities. At the lower secondary and upper secondary levels, the curriculum content is equivalent to other subjects.
