Despite Typhoon Yagi, Lao Cai's tourism sector still welcomed 8 million visitors, generating a total revenue of 26.7 trillion VND.

(PLVN) - On the afternoon of January 9, 2025, in Sa Pa, the Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association held a conference to summarize its activities in 2024 and outline its plans and tasks for 2025. Ms. Giang Thi Dung, Vice Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, attended and chaired the conference.

In 2024, despite facing many difficulties and challenges, especially the severe impact of Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi), with the efforts of the entire industry, Lao Cai tourism continued to maintain stable growth, with many positive changes bringing practical results, maintaining the Lao Cai tourism brand, and contributing to promoting the overall socio -economic development of the province.

Over the past year, the Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association has implemented numerous cooperation programs with other localities to promote the beautiful image of this region to international friends. In addition, improving the quality of tourism services through professional training for the workforce in the industry has also been emphasized.

According to Mr. Pham Cao Vy, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association, the Association has organized many practical and meaningful activities such as: coordinating with the Vietnam Tourism Association to consult on mechanisms, policies, and development orientations for tourism in Lao Cai province; coordinating with the Department of Tourism to successfully organize a meeting with tourism businesses; participating in the development of new tourism products; coordinating the organization of tourism events in the province; regularly directing Association members to improve the quality of tourism services, strengthen tourism promotion and marketing; and supporting and assisting members in overcoming difficulties to maintain and boost production and business activities.

The results of these efforts have contributed to making Lao Cai and Sa Pa prominent and attractive destinations nationwide. In 2024, the province welcomed over 8 million tourists, with total tourism revenue reaching over 26,700 billion VND, a 20% increase compared to 2023, ranking first among the provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region.

In her remarks at the conference, Ms. Giang Thi Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, acknowledged and warmly congratulated the achievements of the Lao Cai tourism industry in 2024. She also emphasized that in 2025, the entire province of Lao Cai will strive to achieve a dual objective (completing very high socio-economic targets for 2025; and striving to reach the goals of the Resolution of the 16th Provincial Party Congress), with many important events and tasks to be implemented, playing a crucial role in promoting the rapid and sustainable development of the province in the coming period. This is a great opportunity for the province and the tourism industry; the Tourism Association and tourism businesses need to pay special attention.

Ms. Giang Thi Dung, Vice Chairperson of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, delivered a speech at the conference.

She stated that, entering 2025, Lao Cai province aims to welcome 10 million tourists, generating 44,500 billion VND in tourism revenue, making Lao Cai a tourism center and an economic growth pole for the Northern mountainous region of Vietnam.

To achieve the set goals, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province requested the entire tourism sector of Lao Cai to continue implementing comprehensive solutions to effectively carry out Government Resolution No. 82 on key tasks and solutions to accelerate the recovery and development of tourism in an efficient and sustainable manner by 2025; Resolution No. 11 of the Provincial Party Committee on the development of tourism in Lao Cai province; and the Framework Strategy for the development of tourism in Lao Cai province until 2030, with a vision to 2050, in order to effectively exploit the potential advantages to develop truly unique, distinctive, and attractive tourism products such as adventure tourism, ecotourism, and cultural tourism.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province also set out a number of requirements for the Lao Cai Tourism Association to improve the quality of services for tourists, and to work together to build a safe, friendly tourism environment with a strong traditional cultural identity so that Lao Cai truly becomes an attractive tourist destination on the national and international tourism map.

Mr. Pham Cao Vy, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association, expressed his sincere gratitude to the provincial leaders, departments, and the People's Committee of Sa Pa town for their continuous support to the association over the past time. He also thanked the enthusiastic contributions from all members and businesses in the tourism sector – those who dare to think and act for the sustainable development of the industry. In the coming time, the association will continue to actively implement programs to conserve nature and traditional culture associated with tourism activities to create even more attractive products for the Lao Cai tourism market.

The Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association called on all members to continue to unite even more to overcome all difficulties and challenges; to work together to build a professional and modern tourism industry in Lao Cai; and to strive to make Lao Cai and Sa Pa safe, friendly, and attractive destinations for all tourists!

Also at the conference, the Lao Cai Provincial Tourism Association awarded certificates of merit to several individuals who had achieved outstanding results in the tourism activities of Lao Cai province in 2024.
