Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development proposes strict handling

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has sent a document to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province regarding the handling of fishing ground disputes in the waters of Ca Mau province.

The document clearly states that, through grasping information about the local situation regarding the compliance with legal regulations by fishermen regarding fishing ground disputes in the waters of Ca Mau province, which have been developing very complicatedly and seriously, causing casualties and property damage to fishermen, it is necessary to implement measures to prevent and handle them.

To help fishermen feel secure in exploiting aquatic products at sea, ensure safety for people and fishing vessels, and strictly enforce legal regulations, especially in the context that the whole country is focusing on efforts to remove the yellow card of the European Commission (EC) on combating IUU fishing, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the People's Committee of Ca Mau province to pay attention to and implement a number of contents.

Firstly, direct the provincial authorities to speed up the investigation, verification, and strict handling of subjects according to the provisions of law to promptly deter and stop violations.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requested Ca Mai province to focus resources, strengthen patrolling, inspection and control in areas and fishing grounds where disputes have frequently occurred in recent times. Inspect and control fishing vessels and fishing activities to ensure compliance with regulations on operating areas and permitted fishing gear.

At the same time, strengthen propaganda and education work and raise awareness for fishermen. Guide fishermen to organize fishing in groups and teams to support each other in a timely manner, as well as guide measures to combat and denounce crimes when fishing at sea .
