BYD Sealion 6 from 839 million VND in Vietnam, "rival" Jaecoo J7 PHEV

Chinese auto brand BYD has just officially introduced the Sealion 6 DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV in the Vietnamese market, imported completely from Thailand.

BYD Sealion 6 launched in Vietnam is distributed in two versions, Dynamic and Premium, with prices of 839 million VND and 936 million VND respectively. In the first phase, the company offers incentives for the first 1,000 customers with prices of 799 million VND and 899 million VND respectively.

After BYD finalized the price of Sealion 6 in Vietnam, Omoda & Jaecoo immediately launched incentives for the J7 PHEV model with a 10-year fuel support package, equivalent to 90 million VND. Thus, in reality, customers need to pay 879 million VND for the J7 PHEV model, instead of 969 million VND as announced. Thus, in addition to competing on selling price, the two Chinese car companies also compete on sales and after-sales policies.

Specifically, the BYD Sealion 6 in Vietnam is distributed in two versions, Dynamic and Premium, priced at VND 839 and VND 936 million, respectively. First-time buyers receive incentives, with prices of VND 799 million and VND 899 million, respectively. Thus, the BYD PHEV model has a more accessible starting price, but Jaecoo's product is "softer" on the high-end version.

Regarding the new BYD Sealion 6 in Vietnam, the car has an overall size of 4,775 x 1,890 x 1,670 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. The front of the car stands out with LED headlights and a horizontal grille. The LED taillights are connected, creating a seamless, modern feel. The car is equipped with 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof and a one-touch electric trunk.

Inside the cabin of the Sealion 6 has a 5-seat configuration, similar to the CR-V. The center console is a 15.6-inch touch screen, accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital screen behind the steering wheel. The entertainment system supports wireless connection Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Outstanding equipment includes 10-speaker Infinity sound system (Premium version), 2-zone automatic air conditioning, dual wireless charging, smart key, unlocking by NFC or BYD Apps.

Sealion 6 is equipped with a DM-i plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.5L gasoline engine (96 horsepower, 122 Nm) with an electric motor (194 horsepower, 300 Nm) for a total combined output of 214 horsepower. A second electric motor acts as a generator, not a drive. According to internal testing in Vietnam, Sealion 6 can travel more than 1,700 km with just one tank of gas and one full charge.

The vehicle comes with a 2.2 kW portable charger, supporting AC Type 2 (6.6 kW) and DC CCS2 (18 kW) charging. The V2L (Vehicle to Load) reverse power feature allows the vehicle to be used as a mobile power source. Regenerative braking recharges the battery during operation.

BYD Sealion 6 is equipped with an ADAS safety package with many modern features such as: Adaptive cruise control (ACC); Lane keeping assist, lane departure warning (LDW); Forward collision warning (FCW); Traffic sign recognition; Adaptive headlights; Automatic braking when reversing...

In addition, the car also has a series of standard safety equipment such as ABS/EBD/BA braking system, 360-degree camera, front/rear parking sensors, blind spot warning, cross-traffic warning when reversing, door opening warning and 6 airbags.

The launch of Sealion 6 in Vietnam shows that BYD is having a more flexible strategy in the Vietnamese market. While pure electric vehicles face difficulties in charging infrastructure, plug-in hybrid vehicles like Sealion 6 can operate more flexibly in urban and inter-provincial conditions, without relying too much on charging infrastructure.
