On April 10th, Mr. Le Thanh Tuan, director of the Gia Lai Provincial Museum, stated that authorities are investigating the incident involving a man stealing a Dong Son bronze drum and a string of amber beads from the Gia Lai Central Highlands Paradise exhibition area.
A Dong Son bronze drum was taken by an employee of a bank branch, and then later returned.
Earlier, while the drum was on display, a man named P. - an employee of a bank branch in Gia Lai - entered the Ede communal house, removed the display case, and took the Dong Son bronze drum away.
After the security guards discovered the artifacts, they asked Mr. P. to return them. Mr. P. then brought the two artifacts, a bronze drum and a string of beads, back to their original location.
According to the leaders of the Gia Lai Provincial Museum, at the time of the incident, the handover of artifacts to the Gia Lai Provincial Museum was still in an "unclear" state.
At that time, Mr. P arbitrarily came and rearranged the exhibits, taking them away. When the security guard discovered this and reported it, the Gia Lai Provincial Museum drew up a report, and Mr. P was subsequently required to return the exhibits.
Reportedly, the bronze drums and other artifacts were lent by collector Dang Minh Tam to the authorities of Gia Lai province for display at the Central Highlands Paradise exhibition space.
Speaking to reporters, collector Dang Minh Tam said he knew Mr. P. and that Mr. P. had informed him that the security measures for the artifacts at the exhibition were inadequate. Therefore, Mr. P. took the artifacts to... test the security at the exhibition (!).
