Hanoi ward officials brave the rain to carry out a 'campaign' to reclaim sidewalks for pedestrians.
On the morning of December 13th, implementing the plan issued by the Hanoi People's Committee to address "bottlenecks" in urban order, communes and wards simultaneously launched campaigns to reclaim sidewalks for pedestrians.

The Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Dong Da Ward, along with the Ward Police force and other organizations, launched a campaign to restore order, discipline, and urban civility in the area.
On the first day of the campaign, the authorities in Dong Da ward requested that businesses along the street commit to not encroaching on sidewalks and roads for trading purposes.
The police force of Dong Da ward requested the owner of the restaurant to remove the items that were illegally placed on the sidewalk of O Cho Dua street.
All tables, chairs, and platforms illegally placed by food stalls on the sidewalk of O Cho Dua Street were ordered to be removed by the authorities.
Authorities in O Cho Dua ward dismantled awnings and canopies that shop owners had illegally erected, detracting from the urban landscape.
Before the wards launched their campaigns, on December 11th, the Hanoi People's Committee requested that communes and wards clearly identify bottlenecks in urban management, especially the encroachment on sidewalks and illegal parking areas, in order to establish order, discipline, and improve urban civility.
Hanoi City requires communes and wards to prevent the existence of illegal makeshift markets and temporary markets, as well as violations involving the encroachment of roads and sidewalks for business and trading purposes. Any use of roads and sidewalks for purposes other than traffic must be licensed in accordance with regulations.
