Intense wildfires northwest of Los Angeles (California, USA) have burned more than 4,800 hectares of land and forced over 1,000 people to evacuate.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) reported that approximately 400 firefighters, 70 fire trucks, and two bulldozers have been deployed to extinguish the fire, which has been named the Post Fire. However, high temperatures, low humidity, and strong winds have hampered firefighting efforts. As of the end of June 16th, firefighters had only contained 2% of the blaze.
According to NPR, approximately 1,200 people have been evacuated from the Hungry Valley amusement park to ensure their safety. To date, two structures in the area have been destroyed by the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. California's wildfire season is intensifying; so far this year, fires have burned more than 16,900 hectares, exceeding the five-year average of 10,900 hectares burned during the same period.
