Since establishing diplomatic relations, the two nations have always stood side by side, supporting each other during wartime as well as in the process of national reconstruction. Hungary has always considered Vietnam an important partner in Southeast Asia.

The friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries is increasingly strong in many fields such as education and training, law and justice, culture, sports, and people-to-people exchanges.

Since upgrading relations to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2018, bilateral trade has increased significantly, exceeding US$1 billion. Vietnam has become one of Hungary's largest trading partners in Southeast Asia.

Hungary was the first EU member state to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), demonstrating the Hungarian government's strong commitment to protecting investors' rights and creating a stable and transparent business environment.

To date, Hungarian direct investment (FDI) has reached US$72.36 million, ranking 55th out of 149 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. Conversely, Vietnam has invested in Hungary in two projects with a total capital of US$5.8 million, and a large investment project worth over US$80 million has just been signed and is currently being implemented.

Hungary plays a crucial role in training human resources for Vietnam, especially in the fields of engineering, medicine, and natural sciences, with thousands of Vietnamese students having studied in Hungary.

The Vietnamese community in Hungary, numbering over 7,000 people, has integrated well into the local society, making many positive contributions to Hungary's socio-economic development and effectively playing a bridging role, creating a solid social foundation for the good friendship between the two nations.
