President Vo Van Thuong sends congratulatory letter to Singaporean President

On the occasion of Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam's inauguration as President of Singapore, on September 14, President Vo Van Thuong sent a congratulatory letter.

Previously, on September 1, more than 2.7 million Singaporean voters participated in the presidential election. According to the results announced by the Elections Department of Singapore (ELD), 66-year-old Tharman Shanmugaratnam won a resounding victory with the support of 70.4% of the votes.

Born in Singapore, Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam is an economist . He entered politics in 2001, serving in the public sector and ministerial positions in Singapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP). He served as Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore from 2011 to 2019.

He officially launched his presidential campaign last month with a pledge to develop the country's culture into a "bright spot" in the world .

He married Jane Yumiko Ittogi and had four children.
