Thai Hai Tran's journey into the aviation industry began with a dream and unwavering determination.
My passion for aviation is not just a dream, but a calling.
Having just completed her Bachelor of Aviation program specializing in pilot training at RMIT University in Australia, Tran's ambition to become a commercial pilot is ready to take flight. The young woman is eager to bring her skills and passion back to serve her homeland.
Trân's love for travel and exploration began early, but it wasn't until she met a female pilot that her passion for aviation transformed from a dream into a career she was determined to pursue.
"When I was little, I always loved traveling," the girl from Can Tho shared, "My heart always fluttered with joy when I discovered new horizons."
"Inspired by a Vietnamese female pilot, I realized my passion for aviation was not just a dream, but a calling. I want to be a part of a world where the sky is not a limit, but a starting point."
During her studies in Australia, Tran discovered that the piloting profession requires not only skill but also a deep respect for the ecosystem that enables the aviation industry to operate.
“While flying high in the sky is certainly exhilarating, my journey has been illuminated by the rich network of industry knowledge I’ve gained, including insights into air traffic management and aviation safety investigations,” Tran explained. “This comprehensive understanding has deepened my respect for the industry, teaching me that aviation is an interconnected ecosystem where safety is paramount.”
The young woman's college experience was marked by a supportive community, which helped Tran overcome challenges in both her personal life and academics.
“Joining student clubs and groups enriched my college experiences,” Tran shared, “I gained lasting friendships and cherished memories that I will carry with me forever. These connections not only made my college years more enjoyable but also gave me a sense of belonging, of being part of a community that I will always appreciate.”

Facing the challenges
Despite her immense passion, Tran faced numerous challenges, especially during the initial training phase. Learning to navigate in a new environment was difficult, particularly in unpredictable weather conditions. But thanks to the dedicated guidance of her instructors, Tran overcame these obstacles.
“The initial phase of the training program was extremely challenging – everything was new and every step I took was hampered by unpredictable weather. But I was fortunate to have key instructors who always believed in me,” Tran recalled.
"The unwavering support, encouragement, and invaluable advice on both flight practice and theory helped me get through the most difficult periods, teaching me about perseverance and determination," she confided.
After graduating in mid-December 2024, Tran will return to Vietnam to take additional specialized courses such as JetFam, ATPL Frozen, and MCC, preparing for important ranking and training assessments to officially work as a commercial pilot. Tran will also dedicate time to completing her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the National Economics University and plans to pursue a Master's degree in Aviation specializing in Flight Safety in the near future.
Tran shared that she is very happy to be preparing to return to Vietnam and is ready to step onto commercial flights as a pilot.
To students who have already embarked on or are about to embark on their own academic journey, Tran has a few words of advice: "Dreams are often beautiful, but they require a lot of effort to become a reality. Embrace every challenge, persevere, and let your passion guide you."
“The thought of flying through the sky and exploring the world fills my heart with joy. I am excited about this amazing journey, where each flight will give me the opportunity to experience a new culture, meet new people, and grasp the endless possibilities that lie ahead,” she confided.
With her wings ready, Tran is preparing to soar high into the sky, bringing her passion and dedication back to the community that inspired her.
