Should I drop out of school to pursue my passion?

Although the young person immediately realized the impact of what they had just said and apologized for using misleading language, stating they did not intend to encourage dropping out of school, public opinion remained quite divided.

Billionaire Bill Gates dropped out of college but clearly demonstrated his extraordinary talent. He has never once boasted about that change of path. How many Bill Gates are there in the world , and not everyone possesses the abilities he has to exemplify!

Both sides have valid arguments.

Supporters argue that such statements are normal, not wrong, and even commendable for speaking the truth. However, these same supporters also argue that saying this in front of tens of thousands of people, mostly young students, was inappropriate and out of place.

While the opposing side argues that such a statement is tantamount to encouraging people to freely pursue their passions without bothering to study hard! Even more extreme, some opponents even "condemn" this young man for having a large following of young fans, suggesting that it's tantamount to encouraging fans to "give up because burying your head in books doesn't guarantee success later."

And it seems like there's no clear winner with all sorts of arguments. Even more heated are questions like, "Does not going to university mean you're uneducated?", or "Doesn't a high school diploma count as being educated?". Both sides have their own arguments.

Supporters argue that opponents are overreacting and being a bit excessive. After all, it was just a spontaneous remark made in a grand and joyful setting, so it was partly due to emotion. Conversely, those who disagree argue that as idols with some influence, primarily among young people, they should be even more careful with their words and not just say whatever they want. Because unintentional words can have a significant impact.

Passion is enough; what need is there for knowledge?

Information from social media suggests that he wasn't a complete dropout. He had only been in university for a short time when he realized his passion for music and decided to drop out to pursue it, with his family's approval.

This means that this person has recognized their passion (not necessarily their strength), defended it, and wants to live their life's passion. Frankly, not every young person can clearly define this for themselves. Some students even reach their final year of university still feeling uncertain about what they will do after graduation or what their passion is!

Returning to the question, "Should you drop out of school to pursue your passion?" What if, at that moment, you suddenly realize you want to do something different from your current path? In reality, many famous Korean stars have excellent academic records from prestigious schools in South Korea. And many well-known artists in Vietnam are no different.

Everyone knows that learning is a process. In today's interconnected world, there are even more ways to learn and acquire knowledge from various sources. Learning certainly still holds its own value; at the very least, someone who studies seriously will gain results and experiences that those who haven't studied will find difficult to obtain. Whether to pursue one's passion or drop out of school is a personal choice. However, don't be quick to boast, "I didn't need to study or I dropped out and still succeeded."

Should you drop out of school to pursue your passion? This question is not without merit for many of us. Please share your thoughts with us and send them to the email address: quoclinh@tuoitre.com.vn.
