Be alert to post-storm dangers
From the painful experience of previous natural disasters (especially after the circulation of Typhoon Yagi in 2024 caused heavy damage to the locality), the authorities of Coc Lau commune determined: "We cannot be subjective even after the storm has dissipated".

Lying along both banks of the Chay River, the terrain is steep and there is constant heavy rain, so every mountain and hilltop is full of water, easily leading to landslides and subsidence.
In recent days, many new landslides have continued to be recorded in the commune, especially along riverside roads and on hillsides.

The road leading to Kho Vang village, which was severely affected by the floods caused by storm No. 3 last year, is now under further threat. Heavy rains caused the already weak roadbed to continue to erode, with rocks and soil spilling onto the road surface. In many sections, the entire concrete surface has collapsed, posing a danger to people traveling.
Ms. Dang Thi Them, a resident of Kho Vang village, worriedly shared: “Traveling on this road is very dangerous. If there is just one more flood, the villagers will have no way to go. This is the only road leading to my house, so I have to pass here every day, walking with fear.”

Not only is traffic cut off, many households living along rivers and streams are also in a state of anxiety.
Mr. Le Xuan Huong, from Kho Vang village, whose house collapsed and crops were lost in last year's flood, said: "Every time it rains, my family is very scared. In front of our house is a deep river, and floods cause landslides. Behind our house is a high river, and wind and rain can cause landslides and house collapses. My children are still young and do not know how to protect themselves. Every time it rains, I do not dare to sleep, I stay up all night to keep watch."
Be proactive in prevention, don't be surprised
Faced with complicated weather conditions, the Coc Lau commune authorities have activated a natural disaster prevention and control plan, increased inspections of high-risk areas, especially villages located along rivers, streams, and low-lying areas. 22 rapid response teams have been established in 22 villages, on duty 24/7, ready to be present in case of emergency.

Mr. Dang Vu Hiep - Vice Chairman of Coc Lau Commune People's Committee said: The commune established rapid response teams in all villages, including Party cell secretaries, village chiefs, commune officials, security and order forces at the grassroots level, regular police and military forces.
The forces regularly exchange and propose plans to coordinate flood prevention and control and provide timely instructions when emergency natural disasters occur.
Along with the direction work, Coc Lau commune also proactively reviewed and updated the list of households in areas at high risk of landslides to develop evacuation plans when necessary.
Materials, means, food and necessities for disaster prevention and control are fully prepared, ensuring timely support for people.

Solidarity – the key to overcoming natural disasters
Currently, functional forces such as the police and military are constantly on duty, proactively checking and initially overcoming landslides, temporarily opening traffic routes; at the same time, intensifying propaganda so that people are not subjective, continuing to raise vigilance against the complicated developments of floods in the coming time.

Not only the government, but also each resident of Coc Lau commune has raised their vigilance and proactive awareness of natural disaster prevention. Many families have prepared evacuation plans, regularly updated weather warning information from the government and rapid response teams via phone, common groups on social networks, such as Zalo, Facebook.
Mr. Pham Van Dieu - Chairman of Coc Lau Commune People's Committee said: Faced with complicated weather developments, the Party Committee and government of Coc Lau Commune have thoroughly grasped and seriously implemented the directions of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee.
The commune proactively developed response plans before, during and after storm No. 11 Matmo affected our province; resolutely directed and promptly deployed response work to rain and floods in accordance with the "four on-the-spot" motto, not to be passive or surprised in responding to natural disasters, especially the risk of rain, floods, landslides and flash floods that may occur.

With the decisive and flexible participation of the government and the spirit of solidarity and initiative of the people, Coc Lau commune is gradually consolidating its "shield" to prevent and combat natural disasters. Although floods still pose many potential risks, with consensus, the locality believes it will minimize the damage caused by natural disasters and protect the safety of the people.
