A glorious career
Alain Fabien Maurice Marcel Delon, born in 1935, is a renowned French actor and film producer. After his parents divorced when he was only four years old, Delon moved to live with his foster parents in Fresnes and attended boarding school. When his mother remarried, he returned to live with her.
In his youth, Delon served in the army and later worked various manual labor jobs such as loading and unloading goods and doing odd jobs. During this time, he befriended the young actor Jean Claude Brialy, who introduced him to director Yves Allégret, marking the beginning of Delon's film career.
From a young age, Delon possessed a striking height and appearance. After his first small role in "Quand la femme s'en mêle" in 1957, he quickly gained audience attention and was invited to participate in various film and television projects.
Soon after, Alain Delon's name became famous and widely known to the public. He starred in many classic films such as: "Rocco And His Brothers" (1960), "Purple Noon" (1960), "The Eclipse" (1962), "The Leopard" (1963), "The Red Circle" (1970), "Mr. Klein" (1976)...
Delon was also invited to collaborate with many renowned directors such as Jean-Pierre Melville, Luchino Visconti, Michelangelo Antonioni… Possessing a handsome appearance, a charming demeanor, and exceptional acting skills, Alain Delon became one of the most famous cinematic legends of France in the late 20th century.
Thanks to his extensive repertoire of nearly 100 roles, Delon has won numerous prestigious awards, including the César Award for Best Actor for his role in Notre histoire (1984), the Golden Bear at the 45th Berlin International Film Festival (1995), and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (2019).
In 2019, Delon suffered a sudden stroke that severely deteriorated his health. His last public appearance was when he received the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2019.
A scandalous private life
Despite his illustrious career, Alain Delon has been the subject of controversy on numerous occasions due to scandalous information about his private life.
In 1959, he became engaged to Mrs. Schneider but had an affair with German singer Christa Päffgen (Nico) and fathered a child with her in 1962. They called off their engagement in 1963.
A year later, he married model and actress Nathalie Barthélémy, but the marriage lasted only five years. She was also his only legally married wife.
Later, Delon had many girlfriends but never married, including singer-actress Dalida, Anne Parillaud, Lana Wood, Catherine Bleynie... and had at least three children.
The notoriously promiscuous French actor, Delon, has been exposed for his extramarital affairs and for physically abusing his wife and children. His love life has consumed countless pages of media coverage, tarnishing his reputation.
In 2019, Delon's Palme d'Or award faced fierce public backlash due to allegations of violence against women and opposition to same-sex couples adopting children.
In his later years, Delon's physical and mental health deteriorated. According to The Guardian, the actor returned to live in seclusion at his estate in Douchy before his death. This was also the place where his three children constantly fought and sued over his inheritance.
The land, which Delon bought in 1971, is now worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He was rarely seen by locals, except for a film screening at Château Renard near his home in May 2023.
