Following the incident where a former student allegedly embezzled funds donated to support people in the North, the Ho Chi Minh City College of Industry and Trade has issued a quick report on the matter.
According to the report, the Club of Prospective Cadres of the Student Union of Ho Chi Minh City College of Industry and Trade, after a period of ineffective operation, was dissolved in January 2024. At the time of dissolution, the club's fund amounted to 11,232,000 VND. The Executive Board unanimously agreed to hand over the management to former student HT (a member of the Executive Board).
A former student who embezzled 90% of aid money intended for people in Central Vietnam was flagged as "checked".
After receiving information about the severe damage to lives and property caused by Typhoon No. 3 in several northern provinces, the club's leadership proposed transferring all the funds to the Vietnam Fatherland Front's account to support the affected people.
On September 9th, HT transferred 1,123,200 VND (instead of transferring the entire remaining fund of the club). At the same time, HT used Photoshop to edit the amount to 11,232,000 VND to report to the club.
HT's actions were exposed shortly after the Vietnam Fatherland Front publicly released over 12,000 pages of bank statements. When his account was flagged by a "Variable Check," HT transferred all of the club's remaining funds to the Vietnam Fatherland Front's account.
HT rectified the situation by transferring the money back to the Vietnam Fatherland Front's account twice.
On the afternoon of September 14th, representatives from the Board of Directors, the Standing Committee of the Youth Union, and the Student Association of the University invited members of the Steering Committee of the Club for Prospective Student Association Cadres and alumni of the University to clarify the matter.
The principal has admitted his wrongdoing, acknowledging that his immature thinking negatively impacted the school. He offered his apologies to everyone, especially the people in Northern Vietnam who are suffering the severe consequences of Typhoon Yagi .
Speaking to reporters on the afternoon of September 15th, a lecturer from the Ho Chi Minh City College of Industry and Trade expressed deep sadness over the actions of former students of the college who were exploiting the system for personal gain. The fact that the Vietnam Fatherland Front released copies of bank statements has helped bring many cases of fraudulent activities to light.
