In the opening match of Group A of the 3rd Vietnam Youth and Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025), Hue University faced Quy Nhon University. This was considered a very interesting match, as the former champion clashed with a newcomer to the tournament. The events on the field on March 1st proved this assessment to be true.
Quang Huy (8) scored the only goal to help Hue University team win 3 points on the opening day.
Both teams delivered an exciting, tactically intense match. Hue University and Quy Nhon University both showcased their strengths: skillful passing and fast-paced ball distribution. Ultimately, Hue University, thanks to their better finishing and an early goal, secured a 1-0 victory and three points in their opening match. The winning goal for Hue University was also spectacular, stemming from a well-executed combination play before Tran Quang Huy easily slotted the ball into the net.

It can be said that, after a season of absence, the former champion Hue University team has made a strong comeback in the national student football arena. Assistant coach Duong Van Dung shared: “After the unsuccessful 2024 season, it was a source of regret and disappointment for the coaching staff and the players of Hue University. Now, we have a new beginning, in our journey to reclaim Hue University's position in Vietnamese student football.”

“With the slogan 'Hue University is back,' our first victory in the final round against Quy Nhon University will further boost our morale and confidence in the final results of this tournament. With the utmost determination, effort, hard training, and team spirit, that is the basis for Hue University's hope to reach the final match at the TSNV THACO Cup 2025,” Coach Van Dung affirmed when asked about the significance of the dramatic victory on the opening day.
Having secured 3 points in the first match, Hue University team has taken the lead in Group A. In the second match of Group A, the team from the ancient capital will face the host team, Ton Duc Thang University, at 5:45 PM on March 4th. This will be a pivotal match in the race for a ticket to the quarterfinals of the TNSV THACO Cup 2025.
Hue University team is considered to have a strong chance of advancing after their victory against Quy Nhon University team in the first match.
The final round of the TNSV THACO Cup 2025 football tournament took place at Ton Duc Thang University's stadium, bringing together 12 competing teams, including: Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports (Northern region), Da Nang University of Physical Education and Sports, Hue University (Central Coastal region), Quy Nhon University (South Central and Central Highlands region), Dong Nai University of Technology (Southeast region), Tra Vinh University (Southwest region), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Van Hien University (Ho Chi Minh City region) and Ton Duc Thang University (host).
Twelve teams are divided equally into three groups, playing in a single round-robin format to determine points and rankings. The top two teams in each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarter-finals. From the quarter-finals onwards, matches that end in a draw after 80 minutes of regulation time will proceed to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
