As Thanh Nien reported, while salaried employees have to pay progressive personal income tax (PIT) from 5 - 35%, individuals such as YouTubers, TikTokers, online sellers... pay at a lower tax rate. In particular, there are many people who are found to have "huge" incomes but no one knows whether they pay taxes and whether the tax paid is consistent with their actual income.
YouTubers and TikTokers have huge incomes but pay less taxes than salaried workers.
In 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department handled 38 people with income from Google with the amount of tax arrears, fines and late payment fees up to 169 billion VND. Among them, a person with a "huge" income from Google but "forgot" to pay taxes was collected and fined 31 billion VND by the District 7 - Nha Be Tax Department... However, these numbers are just a drop in the ocean compared to the revenue and growth rate of e-commerce in Vietnam.
Rich people "forget" to pay taxes!
Talking about the case of "rich people" (singers, YouTubers, TikTokers, online sellers...) who "forget" to pay taxes, reader (BD) Dinh Truc said: "Employees who have seriously registered their labor are strictly managed. As for those with high, very high, and extremely high incomes outside (of course, without registration), they have not fulfilled their obligations and are trying to avoid tax authorities. It is recommended that there should be measures to collect taxes from these people." BD Phu Nguyen suggested: "Let them declare honestly. If they declare falsely or evade taxes, they will be fined 100 times more and imprisoned, so they will probably stop."
Meanwhile, Mr. Trinh Cuong expressed: "Regarding the unreasonableness of personal income tax, I remember Thanh Nien Newspaper and experts have also commented and analyzed articles. It is true that "the tax rate of salaried employees is much higher than that of both enterprises and individual businesses", saying that is not an exaggeration... The important issue is to identify the points that are considered unreasonable, unfair, and omitted... then they should be amended and implemented quickly".
"The tax authorities should work with YouTube and Google platforms... and then deduct the prescribed percentage that these channels pay them, instead of letting them receive the money and then pay it back. Do it like civil servants and public employees... who have their expenses deducted before receiving the money. It's a simple task!", Thanh Cong Real Estate commented.
There is a penalty for late tax payment, but what about late tax refund?
Paying taxes without missing a penny, bearing the burden of outdated family deductions, but when it comes to tax refunds, many individuals have to suffer. Many people, out of frustration, have given up their legal money to save time and avoid "bringing trouble upon themselves".
BD Thang Huynh indignantly said: "Registering for my biological mother is already difficult, let alone my sisters. In 2018, I paid personal income tax in Dong Nai and my mother was successfully registered as a dependent. In 2019, I moved to Ho Chi Minh City and was asked to re-register. But because I had separated and moved from the province to Ho Chi Minh City, I did not have any documents confirming the personal relationship. The birth certificate was lost. So in reality, I still support my mother but I do not get family deductions." BD Hien Le also said: "I think this issue needs to be considered. I do not have a high income, I have a small child, but I have been applying for a tax refund for a month now and have had no news. I went back and forth to ask, but they told me to just wait, I am discouraged."
Also frustrated, BĐ Hoang Anh shared: "Personal income tax settlement is extremely complicated. The application was submitted in March, the deadline for settlement is still "Under review". Contacting the Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department several times still failed. The propaganda officer gave the phone number of the officer in charge, but I couldn't call or text, and there was no response. In the end, I don't know what's going on with the application. Whether it's successful or not, I have to answer, right? Then I asked to cancel the application to send it to another tax department for processing, but I fell into silence. If I pay tax 1 day late, I will be fined, but I have to ask to get my money back... If I'm late like that, will the tax department be fined in return?" BĐ Robin also said: "If the tax department refunds value added tax to businesses later than prescribed, it must pay interest to businesses, so the tax department will actively work according to the law and regulations".
"I wish for fairness in tax calculation for all citizens, "rich" as well as salaried people, individuals as well as businesses... Don't let salaried people suffer. And those who pay taxes late will be fined, and those who collect taxes late for tax refunds must also be fined. That's fair," said Mr. Y. Lang.
* Propose to increase the family deduction for the taxpayer himself, increase the family deduction for each dependent, because these levels are too outdated!
Tieu Minh
* Taxes are usually aimed at income from salaries and wages paid by businesses, which are easier to control than income from individual businesses.
Le Quy An
* If tax evasion is discovered, or criminal prosecution is imposed, no one will dare to evade taxes.
Thanh Minh
* Paying taxes is automatic in 4.0, but getting a tax refund is too much trouble, so I gave up, even though I knew I was losing out! The amount of money is not small!
