Today, July 20, many candidates and parents came to the 2024 University and College Admissions Consulting Day held at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) to receive advice on registering for admission.

"No school is allowed to change the candidate's choice of wishes"

At the general counseling stage in Ho Chi Minh City, many parents reported that many universities currently require candidates to place their first choice on candidates who have been admitted early.

"These schools note that if candidates do not register their first choice, they will not be officially recognized as admitted. Meanwhile, my child still wants to register for admission again because he is not satisfied with the major he was admitted to early. If he has to register for his first choice, he will not be able to choose another major to apply for," a parent wondered.

Regarding this, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics - said that in recent days, he has also heard information that many schools advise candidates to put their first choice in the school that has been admitted early.

"I would like to emphasize that candidates should never follow this request. The admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training is designed according to the principle of creating conditions for candidates to choose and be admitted to their favorite major, the best school, according to their wishes.

Deciding on the order of your application is the candidate's sacred right. No school can change that right.

Therefore, candidates who like the major and school the most should put that choice highest, then the lower choices, and finally write down the choice they are eligible for early admission.

When considering admission, the system considers the bottom line, even if the candidate fails all of their wishes, they are still sure to pass the major they were admitted to early. Don't be foolish enough to end the game right now by registering your wish for a major you were admitted to early, while you still want to choose a major and school you like more," Mr. Bao advised.

When asked to give advice to candidates when arranging their application wishes, Mr. Bao shared: "The best way to set your wishes is to put your favorite major and favorite school in the highest position (first wish). Even if your score is a little lower than the previous year's standard score, you should still boldly register for your first wish."

Must correctly, fully and completely complete the registration process on the Ministry's system.

According to Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Chief Specialist of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), this year candidates are not limited in the number of admission applications until 5:00 p.m. on July 30. Admission applications are made on the Ministry's common system.

Currently, all candidates know their high school graduation exam scores. The Ministry of Education and Training has also announced the threshold to ensure the quality of input for teacher training and health sectors.

All candidates, whether they have met the conditions for early admission or are just registering for admission, must log in to the ministry's general admissions page to register their admission wishes.

"In principle, candidates can adjust and add to their admission wishes without any limit. Candidates must register and arrange their priority wishes from 1 to the end, in which wish 1 is the highest priority wish. Candidates must correctly, completely and completely complete the registration process on the ministry's system," Mr. Hung noted.

After successfully registering, from July 31 to 5:00 p.m. on August 6 , candidates must pay the admission fee according to the number of wishes registered for admission online on the ministry's system.

According to Mr. Hung, the review of candidates' priority policies has been officially included in the regulations and this task has been assigned to teachers at high schools. Candidates still have time to carefully review the information about their priority in admission to see if it is correct.

"This is very important, affecting the future university admission and failure results of candidates. If there are any errors, inaccuracies or discrepancies with the priority benefits that candidates should enjoy, they need to request the high school they are studying at to make corrections immediately. When universities download the data for admission, there will be no errors that affect the rights of candidates," said Mr. Hung.

Regarding independent candidates, Mr. Hung also said that every year there are about 30,000 - 50,000 candidates. Today, July 20, is the last day to issue registration accounts for independent candidates. If you do not have an account, candidates need to urgently contact the receiving units as prescribed by the Department of Education and Training to be issued an account.

Low score should I register for information technology?

A candidate said that he really loves the IT industry, but his low test scores make him afraid that he will not be accepted into this industry at public schools. He is wondering whether he should apply for the IT industry at private schools.

Answering candidates' questions, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Anh, Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that information technology is currently being trained in most universities and colleges.

The admission scores for this major at top schools (Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, etc.) are quite high. While many other schools have scores that are not too high.

"At our school, the admission score for the IT major ranges from 19-20 points. The school also considers academic records, in which the admission score for the IT major ranges from 18-21 points.

In addition, you can also choose to study this major at college with a shorter study time to graduate and work early. The college level has a lighter admission score. Thus, candidates have many options.

The most important thing is that if you are truly passionate about information technology, you can succeed no matter which school you attend," Mr. Quoc Anh emphasized.
