2025 will be the first year the high school graduation exam is held according to the 2018 General Education Program. Candidates will only take four subjects, including two compulsory subjects (Vietnamese Literature and Mathematics) and two elective subjects (from the remaining subjects studied in grade 12: Foreign Language, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics and Law Education, Informatics, and Technology). The exam is expected to take place on June 26-27, 2025.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the sample exam ensures compliance with the regulations on the structure and format of the high school graduation exam from 2025 onwards, as announced by the Ministry, while also closely following the 2018 General Education Program, primarily focusing on grade 12.

To ensure objectivity, comprehensiveness, and alignment with the curriculum and teaching and learning process, the Ministry of Education and Training invited experts, scientists , lecturers, teachers, and editors who had participated in developing textbooks to contribute to the exam question development.

Compared to previous years, the Ministry of Education released the sample exam questions for the 2025 high school graduation exam nearly 5 months earlier. The Ministry stated that this was to help schools, teachers, and students proactively prepare for the exam.
