Average IELTS score of Vietnamese people drops

According to the recently released data on the global IELTS test in 2023-2024, the average IELTS score of Vietnamese people is 6.2/9.0 for the Academic test, ranking 29/39. Meanwhile, in 2022, our country ranked 23 out of 40 participating countries.

In this test, 21% of Vietnamese candidates achieved a score of 6.0. This is also the most common score in the academic test. In addition, only 5% of people achieved IELTS 8.0 or higher. Along with that, the scores for each skill of Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking in the academic test are 6.3, 6.4, 6.0, 5.7 respectively.

In Southeast Asia, Vietnam has the 4th highest average IELTS score, along with Cambodia and Thailand. Before these 3 countries are Malaysia (7.5/9.0), Philippines (7.0/9.0), Indonesia and Myanmar (both 6.5/9.0).

For the General Training test, the average score of Vietnamese people is 5.7/9.0, ranked 34/39.

In this test, the common score of Vietnamese people is 5.0 with 15% of candidates achieving this score. Right after that is 5.5 with 14% of candidates and 4.5 with 13% of candidates. As with the academic test, only 5% of people achieved a score of 8.0 or higher in the general test. The scores for each skill of Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking of the academic test are 5.7, 5.6, 5.8, 5.4 respectively.

According to statistics, 79.08% of candidates globally take the academic test and 20.92% of candidates take the general test.

IELTS is a popular standardized English test for non-native English speakers. It assesses the four skills of Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking on a 9-point scale.

Every year, more than 2 million candidates take the IELTS test for the purpose of studying abroad, settling down or applying for a job.
