In recent years, Agribank Lai Chau branch has prioritized capital for agricultural and rural production and processing and key economic development programs of the province.
The unit coordinates with local authorities, departments and branches to guide and train production and business skills for loan customers; strengthen inspection and supervision of capital use for the right purposes; promote digital transformation, apply modern banking services, helping people and businesses easily access capital.
Mr. Voong Ca Lanh in Thong Nhat village, Phong Tho border commune, realized that the people's demand for plant seeds was increasing, so he learned how to grow and graft plants. After many years of experience, he was able to successfully grow and graft many types of plants. To expand the scale and improve the quality of seeds, he boldly borrowed capital from Agribank, thanks to which he sold tens of thousands of seedlings to serve the market every year.
Mr. Lanh said: At first, my family only cultivated large timber trees such as lat, mat, and sua do. Later, I successfully cultivated macadamia trees. Due to increased demand, I borrowed more capital to establish Voong Dinh Cooperative and expand production scale. From 2019 to now, each year the cooperative has provided more than 50,000 macadamia seedlings (at a price of 50-55 thousand VND/tree), not only for Lai Chau but also expanded to Son La and Dien Bien provinces... Voong Dinh Cooperative also planted more than 80 hectares of forest, protected and bred 106 hectares of forest, creating stable jobs for more than 10 workers, with the peak of nursery season reaching up to 30 people, with an average income of more than 6 million VND/month.
Ms. Lo Thi Phan, Doan Ket village said: "Thanks to being accepted by the cooperative, I have both a job and an income. The job of transporting seedlings and taking care of young plants is suitable for farmers like us, close to home, with a stable income so we can stick with it for a long time, and the family has the conditions to send their children to school and have a stable life." Another typical example is Duong Yen Cooperative (Phong Tho commune) founded by Mr. Hoang Dang Binh, taking advantage of water resources to raise cold-water fish.
Initially, he only had 200 m² with about 10,000 fish fry. Due to the high cost, he borrowed 3 billion VND from the bank under a medium-term credit line with preferential interest rates to expand the scale. Mr. Binh said: “The loan allows us to rotate according to the growth cycle of the fish, significantly reducing interest rates. Currently, the farming area is more than 500 m², 30,000 fish fry per year, supplying both restaurants and purchasing products for other households.
Four salmon products of the cooperative have been recognized as OCOP, consumed in the province. Thanks to that, the cooperative has achieved revenue of 6-7 billion VND/year, creating stable jobs for 10 workers with an income of about 7 million VND/month". Up to now, the total outstanding loans for socio-economic development in Lai Chau province have reached 8,615 billion VND, of which personal loans are 3,351 billion VND, and businesses are 5,266 billion VND.
According to Mr. Ha Duc Luong, Deputy Director of Agribank Lai Chau branch, credit capital creates an important driving force to promote agricultural and forestry production, livestock and crop cultivation, especially household economy, cooperatives and small and medium enterprises. Thereby, many households have boldly invested in commodity production, applied new techniques, improved productivity and product quality; enterprises have expanded agricultural processing, developed commercial infrastructure, invested in hydropower, creating more jobs for local workers.
Besides the effects of capital, implementation also faces difficulties such as many production households have limited knowledge of capital management and skills in commodity production; infrastructure in remote areas is not favorable; agricultural product markets fluctuate, output prices are unstable, affecting debt repayment ability...
According to the representative of the leadership of Agribank Lai Chau branch, in the coming time, they will continue to prioritize capital for agricultural and rural production and processing and key programs of the province; coordinate with localities, departments and branches to train production and business skills for borrowers; and closely monitor capital use.
At the same time, promote digital transformation, expand modern banking services, help people and businesses access capital more conveniently, contributing to promoting green and sustainable development of Lai Chau agriculture.
