The 2023 Asian Cup will take place from January 12, 2024. The Vietnamese team is in Group D with opponents Japan, Iraq and Indonesia.

According to the tournament format, 24 teams are divided into 6 groups. The group winners and runners-up are guaranteed a place in the knockout stage. The remaining spots are reserved for the 4 best third-placed teams.

At the 2019 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team under the guidance of coach Park Hang Seo passed the group stage with the last spot for the third-placed team. This year, in a group with Japan and Iraq - the two strongest teams in Asia - the Vietnamese team will have difficulty competing for the top two spots.
