On July 17th, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province issued a decision approving the partial adjustment of the 1/2,000 scale zoning plan for the Buu Long tourist and residential area (Tran Bien ward) to preserve century-old villas.
Accordingly, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province approved the adjustment of over 2,900 m² of land from green park function to transportation land; the adjustment of approximately 438 m² of transportation land to religious and historical site land; and the adjustment of approximately 311 m² from riverside resort land to religious and historical site land.
The approval of the local adjustment to the zoning plan aims to "reorient" the Đồng Nai riverside road section passing through the Võ Hà Thanh ancient villa area (also known as Ông Phủ's mansion).
The 5.2km embankment and riverside road project along the Dong Nai River (from Hoa An Bridge, Bien Hoa City to the border of Vinh Cuu District) has an investment capital of nearly 2,000 billion VND. The project started at the end of 2021 and is expected to be completed in mid-2023.
According to the plan, to make way for the road construction, the old Vo Ha Thanh villa will be demolished by approximately 9 meters, which is equivalent to about half of the building being within the project's planned area.
Therefore, many experts and scientists have suggested that the planning should be adjusted to preserve the old villas in order to conserve and promote their cultural, historical, and architectural value.
The People's Committee of Dong Nai province subsequently assigned the Department of Construction to review and propose options for preserving the Ong Phu mansion.
The Department of Construction has proposed four options, including the option of "rerouting" the Dong Nai riverside road section passing through the Vo Ha Thanh ancient villa area to preserve the structure.
Rare French-style villa in Bien Hoa
The villa of Governor Vo Ha Thanh (Buu Long ward, Bien Hoa city) was built in 1922 and completed in 1924.
The old villa had a structure similar to the Bien Hoa Provincial Courthouse and was the largest private residence in Bien Hoa province at the time, with all the building materials ordered from France and transported by sea.
With its century-old history, the ancient villa of Governor Vo Ha Thanh holds immense cultural, historical, and architectural significance.
This was also the filming location for the famous movie "The Beauty of Tay Do" in 1996.
