According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Forecasting Department at the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, the northern region is experiencing widespread showers and thunderstorms. The rain will continue from today, June 28th, until July 2nd. We estimate the total rainfall during this period will generally be 100-300mm, with some areas exceeding 500mm.
According to Mr. Huong, the low-pressure trough with its axis passing through the Northern region tends to become more active, and at the same time, there is a low-pressure vortex located in the Northern region, operating at an altitude of 3,000-5,000m, providing a large amount of moisture and causing this rainfall.
Mr. Huong added that although the total rainfall was high, it lasted for 5 days, so the average amount wasn't excessively large. The total local rainfall could reach 500mm, which is not particularly high compared to the rains in early June.
Regarding the heavy rainfall during this period, Mr. Huong stated that it is concentrated in the Northern region. The Northern region has recently experienced widespread and prolonged rainfall, resulting in a total rainfall amount exceeding the multi-year average. This new rainfall is expected to continue, with some areas experiencing high-intensity rain (100mm in 3 hours). Attention should be paid to the dangerous phenomenon of flash floods and landslides in mountainous and hilly areas. Furthermore, urban flooding should be anticipated in the coming period.
Detailed forecast for the night of June 28th to the night of June 29th: The Northern region will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall amounts will generally range from 40-100mm, with some areas exceeding 250mm. A warning is issued regarding the risk of localized heavy rainfall (>100mm/3h).
On the afternoon and evening of June 28th, Thanh Hoa , the Central Highlands, and Southern Vietnam will experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas receiving heavy rain, with rainfall amounts of 10-30mm, and some areas receiving over 50mm.
On June 30th, both day and night, Northern Vietnam experienced moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts generally ranged from 40-80mm, with some areas receiving over 150mm.
During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
