Bac Ha, in Lao Cai province, has long been known for its unique markets and traditional horse racing festival, which takes place only once a year. However, starting this year, the festive atmosphere will appear every weekend, as Bac Ha will organize a series of regular horse races. This is seen as a new step to enhance the value of the heritage and create an attractive tourism product that reflects the unique identity of the highlands.

Visiting Bac Ha on weekends, many tourists are thrilled to witness the dramatic competitions of the highland pack horses. From the very first races, the stadium resounds with cheers, while on the track, the horses sprint at full speed. For many years, the traditional June horse race has become a prominent cultural and sporting event, attracting thousands of tourists and being listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. To expand its appeal, from November 2025, Bac Ha will organize weekly horse races in conjunction with the activities of the Bac Ha Horse Club. The first three weeks of each month are the qualifying rounds, each with 24 to 30 jockeys, selecting 8 outstanding jockeys for the finals. The last week of the month is the final round with 24 jockeys competing to determine the top ranking.

Besides the local market, the Hoang A Tuong mansion, and the vibrant flower seasons, the sound of horse hooves every weekend is creating a more lively tourist scene for this white plateau region. To make horse racing a regular tourist product, Bac Ha places special emphasis on safety. The commune police ensure security, the health station provides support, the Youth Union handles logistics, and the Horse Club's management board oversees technical aspects. This thorough preparation ensures that tourists can feel completely at ease immersing themselves in the exhilarating atmosphere of the race.
