(HNMO) - On May 26, the People's Committee of Ba Vi district organized the opening ceremony of the 2023 Run for Peace and awarded prizes to athletes who achieved outstanding results at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32).
In implementation of Plan No. 57 dated February 21, 2023, of the Hanoi City People's Committee on organizing the Ba Vi District Peace Run 2023 and launching the 48th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Expanded Run; in response to the 77th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's article "Physical Exercise and Health" calling on all citizens to exercise; and to practically achieve accomplishments to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the founding of Ba Vi District (July 26, 1968 - July 26, 2023), on May 26, the Ba Vi District People's Committee organized the Peace Run 2023.
The race attracted nearly 200 athletes, aiming to launch a nationwide movement for physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh, and to select athletes with outstanding achievements to participate in the 48th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Open Running Race - For Peace in 2023.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ba Vi District People's Committee Nguyen Duc Anh affirmed that for many years, Ba Vi district has selected outstanding athletes to participate in the running competition organized by Hanoi Moi Newspaper and achieved good results. Specifically, in 2022, the Ba Vi district team won 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal. At the city-organized student athletics competition in March 2023, Ba Vi district won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 3 bronze medals...
“This year’s Ba Vi District Peace Run is being held at a time when the people of the entire district are enthusiastically competing and striving to achieve accomplishments to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the founding of Ba Vi District. The run is held annually and has achieved proud results, demonstrating its strong vitality, longevity, and practical contributions to high-performance sports and grassroots sports in the district,” Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh emphasized.
Over the years, the sports movement in Ba Vi district has achieved many remarkable results. Many sports facilities have been built in the district, such as the Quang Oai Stadium and the Central Gymnasium; 100% of communes and towns in the district have stadiums; and all schools have built multi-functional training facilities. Every year, Ba Vi district regularly organizes competitions, maintains and develops talent classes and clubs, thereby creating a healthy and beneficial playground, providing opportunities for athletes to interact, learn, and improve their physical and mental well-being.
Also at the ceremony, the People's Committee of Ba Vi district awarded prizes to athletes who achieved outstanding results at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games. At the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation excellently won first place overall with 136 gold medals, 105 silver medals, and 114 bronze medals. Among them, contributing to the overall success of the Vietnamese sports delegation, 8 athletes from Ba Vi participated in the Games and won a total of 13 medals in team and individual events, including 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.
Following the opening ceremony, the athletes participated in a general fitness test run. The organizing committee selected the best athletes to advance to the final round of the 48th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Open Running Race - For Peace 2023, which will be held at the end of September 2023.
