The arrival of Gemini is seen as a major effort by Google to transform Smart TVs into a more intelligent entertainment and support center. With Gemini, users can still perform familiar tasks such as searching for programs, controlling playback, or checking sports scores.

However, the key difference lies in its superior natural language processing capabilities and ability to respond to complex requests. Users can ask questions like: "Are there any new hospital movies that are trending?", or "Suggest a movie that's both a drama and a light comedy for me to watch with my wife." Gemini will provide suitable suggestions.
Beyond entertainment, Gemini on Google TV also supports various life situations, from suggesting dinners that can be cooked in an hour to creating detailed travel plans.
Gemini's incomplete integration
Despite its many advantages, Gemini still has limitations in terms of support. Users must own the high-end TCL QM9K TV model (priced from $3,000 on Best Buy) to experience it immediately.
Google will expand Gemini's presence to several other devices later this year, including the Google TV Streamer; Walmart Onn 4K Pro; Hisense U7, U8, UX (2025); and TCL QM7K, QM8K, X11K (2025). It is currently unclear whether Chromecast or the budget-friendly Onn 4K models will be included in the list.
The Gemini AI chatbot calls humans a 'cosmic stain' and issues malicious threats.
The transition from Google Assistant to Gemini on Wear OS went fairly smoothly, and if the same scenario repeats itself on Google TV, it will certainly be a worthwhile upgrade. However, the slow rollout and initial device limitations mean many users aren't really celebrating yet.
Combined with the recently leaked Google TV interface, Gemini is expected to create a more personalized and intelligent Smart TV experience. But to become the "new standard" for the living room, Google will have to prove that Gemini is more than just a name upgrade.
