Increasing number of Lao people illegally buying, selling and transporting drugs through Quang Tri

According to information from the Steering Committee 138 of Quang Tri province, recently, the situation of Lao people illegally buying, selling and transporting drugs from Laos through Quang Tri province has tended to increase. Many subjects have been arrested and handled by the force according to regulations.

According to statistics, from the beginning of 2024 to June 20, 2024, the functional forces in the province discovered 7 cases, caught 14 Lao nationals in the act of storing, buying, selling, and illegally transporting drugs, seized 35 kg of heroin, 50,600 pills, and 100 kg of synthetic drugs; an increase of 4 cases and 10 subjects compared to the same period in 2023.

It is known that in the border areas, in recent times, Lao authorities have stepped up the fight against drug crimes, but the results have not been high. Currently, drug gathering points and gathering points have appeared in many villages along the border such as: Densavan, Karon, Ka Tup 1, Ka Tup 2, Ma Hat, My Yen, Ra Leng... Bad guys are ready to supply drugs in large quantities. Not only that, they also try to bribe and entice officials to participate in criminal networks and organizations.

To transport drugs from Laos to Vietnam, criminals use many tricks. One of the tricks that has emerged recently is to take advantage of tourist passenger transport activities to transport drugs across the border. Criminals often reinforce and hide drugs in the ceiling and floor of 4- or 16-seat cars and camouflage them discreetly. Then, they disguise themselves as tourists with the purpose of transporting drugs across the border.
