Airfares drop sharply after Tet (Lunar New Year).

Following the peak period of the Lunar New Year, the transportation market, especially the aviation and railway sectors, is in a low season. Airfare and train ticket prices are simultaneously decreasing during this period.

According to reports, round-trip airfares on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route on weekends (March 15-17) have decreased by 30-45%, and in some cases are only half the price compared to the period from December 2023 to February 29, 2024, ranging from 3.2 to 4.5 million VND per ticket.

Airfares have dropped across the board after the Lunar New Year.

Specifically, round-trip economy class tickets for the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, departing on March 19th and returning on March 22nd, are priced at VND 3,150,000 with Vietjet Air, VND 3,387,000 with Bamboo Airways, VND 3,429,000 with Vietravel Airlines, and VND 4,585,000 with Vietnam Airlines .

According to forecasts, domestic airfares are expected to continue to fall from the first week of April until before the April 30th - May 1st holidays.

During the first weekend of April, ticket prices on tourist routes also saw a sharp decrease. Round-trip tickets from Hanoi to Nha Trang, Da Lat, and Phu Quoc were priced at 3.4 million VND, 3.5 million VND, and 3.6 million VND respectively.

In addition, airlines are also implementing their biggest ticket price promotions of the year, such as Vietnam Airlines' "Summer 2024" promotion with domestic flights at a flat rate starting from only 1,099,000 VND/segment (including taxes and fees) to many attractive tourist destinations.

In addition, round-trip flights from Vietnam to international destinations are also offered at discounted prices, with the lowest fare starting from just 4,300,000 VND (including taxes and fees).

The fares for domestic and international flights in this program include taxes and fees, and apply to flights departing from April 5th to December 28th, 2024, with conditions applicable during certain peak periods.

According to experts, the reason for the sharp drop in airfare is that the domestic market is entering its off-peak season, with reduced demand for travel. However, these "affordable" prices are only valid from now until the end of April. From the April 30th holiday until the end of August, airfares will rise again due to high demand for travel during the holiday and summer months.

Railways reduce train ticket prices by up to 30%.

Not only airfares, but also Thong Nhat train tickets will be reduced by up to 30% during the off-peak season of 2024 when purchased well in advance of travel dates. According to information from the Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, from now until April 24th and from May 2nd to May 16th, the railway sector will implement many discount policies.

The railway industry is still applying a discount policy for social policy beneficiaries such as Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, those whose remains are being repatriated, war invalids, and those affected by chemical toxins, etc.

Passengers purchasing individual tickets for the Thong Nhat SE1/SE2 and SE5/SE6 trains between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa will receive a 5% discount if booked 5-9 days in advance, 10% if booked 10-19 days in advance, 20-39 days in advance, and 40% if booked 40 days or more in advance. The condition for this discount is that the travel distance must be 900km or more.

For passenger trains on the Hanoi - Hai Phong route, the railway industry continues to apply preferential policies for monthly and group tickets.

Specifically, for the Hanoi - Hai Phong passenger train route, passengers can purchase a monthly pass for 550,000 VND/pass/month, traveling by train between Hanoi, Long Bien, Gia Lam, Cam Giang, and Hai Duong stations, or between Cam Giang, Hai Duong, Phu Thai, Thuong Ly, and Hai Phong stations.

With a monthly pass of 800,000 VND, passengers can travel by train between Hanoi, Long Bien, Gia Lam, Cam Giang, Hai Duong, Phu Thai, Thuong Ly, and Hai Phong stations.

Passengers traveling in groups, with discount codes 3TANG1 (buy 3 tickets, get 1 free) and 6TANG2 (buy 6 tickets, get 2 free), can save 85,000 - 125,000 VND per way for a trip for 4 people or 170,000 - 250,000 VND per way for a trip for 8 people.

Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company also applies many discount programs of up to 30% when passengers buy tickets 5 days or more before the train departure date, with discounts ranging from 5% to 30%; passengers buying tickets in groups of 5 or more receive discounts from 2% to 14%; and passengers buying round-trip tickets also receive a 10% discount on the return leg. At the same time, discount programs are implemented for passengers with customer cards, trade union members, and passengers traveling on their birthdays.
