On the evening of December 4th, speaking with a VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Tran Phan The My, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Dinh Ward (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi), stated that the residents' self-erecting of barriers in the alleys of Thuong Dinh Street is against the law. The People's Committee of the ward has held meetings with relevant agencies and representatives of the Mechanical Engineering 2A and 2B residential areas to request their removal.

"Currently, alleys 94, 126, and 144 in Thuong Dinh have had their barriers removed to prevent vehicles from entering during peak hours, while some alleys like 58 and 105 still have barriers. For alleys with remaining barriers, the ward will conduct inspections and continue to remove them," Mr. My said.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Dinh Ward added that after removing the barriers, the unit proposed to the Thanh Xuan District Police a plan to reroute traffic, assigning personnel to direct traffic to prevent congestion and stop vehicles from driving against the flow of traffic.

Previously, residents in some alleys of the Mechanical Engineering 2A and 2B residential areas had erected barriers to block motorbikes during peak hours (from 7-8:30 AM).

The reason given by residents is that during rush hour, many vehicles enter the alleyways to drive against the flow of traffic onto the Nga Tu So overpass. This causes traffic congestion in the alleyways, leading to traffic accidents and affecting the lives of residents.

Are residents installing barriers to prevent vehicles from entering alleys in Hanoi contributing to curbing traffic violations? According to residents living in alleys 127 and 155 Nguyen Trai; and 126 and 144 Thuong Dinh (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi), only those who deliberately drive against the flow of traffic oppose the installation of barriers to prevent vehicles from entering the alleys.
