The Netherlands attaches importance to developing a comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.

Ambassador Kees van Baar affirmed that the Netherlands attaches importance to developing the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam on the basis of a trustworthy political relationship and close cooperation in multilateral forums.

On the afternoon of September 7, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son received Mr. Kees van Baar, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Vietnam.

At the meeting, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his delight at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Netherlands Comprehensive Partnership in recent times; welcomed the fact that the two countries have been implementing many meaningful activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), contributing to enhancing exchanges and mutual understanding between the two countries.

Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated the Ambassador's active role in coordinating the successful organization of many high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries, especially the official visit to the Netherlands by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in December 2022 and the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Climate Change Response and Water Management in the Netherlands in June 2023 co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, contributing to bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new stage of development, going deeper, more effective and substantive.

On this occasion, the Minister asked Ambassador Kees van Baar to continue promoting high-level delegation exchanges and all-level delegation exchanges during his term; maintain effective implementation of bilateral cooperation mechanisms; coordinate with Vietnamese partners to deepen the framework of the Strategic Partnership on Climate Change Adaptation and Water Management and the Strategic Partnership on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security through practical cooperation projects and programs suitable to the conditions of both sides.

Minister Bui Thanh Son suggested that the two sides coordinate to effectively implement high-level agreements, maintain effective cooperation in traditional fields such as politics - diplomacy, trade - investment, and at the same time strengthen cooperation in fields suitable to the Netherlands' strengths and Vietnam's development needs such as circular economy, high technology, renewable energy, etc.

For his part, Ambassador Kees van Baar shared the assessments of Minister Bui Thanh Son and thanked the Minister and relevant units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their cooperation and support in implementing the Embassy's activities to promote the increasingly expanding relations between the Netherlands and Vietnam in many fields.

Ambassador Kees van Baar affirmed that the Netherlands attaches importance to developing the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam on the basis of a trustworthy political relationship, close cooperation in multilateral forums, supports promoting high-level delegation exchanges between the two countries and expanding cooperation in potential areas such as high technology, climate change response, water management, and sustainable agriculture.

The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, emphasizing support for peace, cooperation and development, and resolving disputes and conflicts by peaceful means in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.
