Accordingly, at 7:30 PM (October 5th), a tornado struck Ky Xuan commune, causing three fishing boats belonging to local fishermen to capsize and flood while they were squid fishing in the Ky Xuan sea area. These boats belonged to Mr. Nguyen Van Song from Xuan Tien village, and Mr. Tran Trong Tuong and Mr. Phan Hong Dang, both from Xuan Phu village.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chung, Vice Chairman of Ky Xuan commune, said that the tornado struck unexpectedly, so the fishermen didn't have time to get ashore, even though their squid fishing boats were not far from the shore. After receiving the information, the commune urged people to quickly find ways to bring the boats ashore. After struggling with the large waves for a while, local people successfully towed two boats belonging to fishermen Nguyen Van Song and Tran Trong Tuong to shore safely; however, the boat of fisherman Phan Hong Dang sank near the shore, but due to the strong waves and wind, it could not be salvaged yet.
At the same time, a fishing boat belonging to fisherman Nguyen Van Hieu (Le Loi village, Ky Xuan commune) encountered a whirlwind while returning to shore and rescued Nguyen Minh Duc (Phu Hai village, Ky Anh commune) who was drifting at sea about 1.5 nautical miles from the mainland along the coast bordering Ky Anh and Ky Khang communes.
Reportedly, fisherman Nguyen Minh Duc was also fishing for squid when a storm capsized his boat, causing him to drift at sea. Currently, all fishermen are in stable condition, but their fishing gear was severely damaged, and the two boats belonging to Phan Hong Dang and Nguyen Minh Duc have sunk and have not yet been salvaged.
