Many candidates were exempted from the Foreign Language exam in the 2024 high school graduation exam.
In Son La province, 12,680 candidates registered to take the exam (10,376 high school students; 1,193 continuing education students; and 1,111 independent students), with 35 examination centers, 562 examination rooms, and 55 waiting rooms. Following the directives of the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2024 high school graduation exam will continue to be implemented according to the "4 correct, 3 not" principle: Correct adherence to regulations and exam guidelines; correct and complete adherence to procedures, without omitting any procedure; correct placement of assigned duties and responsibilities; correct timing, and timely handling of unusual situations; and 3 not, including: No negligence or complacency; no unauthorized handling of unusual situations; and no excessive stress or pressure.
In the 2024 high school graduation exam, Son La province had 20 candidates exempted from all exams and 81 candidates exempted from the foreign language exam. The 20 candidates exempted from all exams were all severely disabled; the 81 candidates exempted from the foreign language exam achieved the required foreign language certificates (79 candidates with IELTS certificates will receive a perfect score of 10 in the foreign language subject when considering graduation). The students with foreign language certificates are concentrated in the following schools: Son La Specialized High School (48 certificates); Chu Van An Primary, Secondary & High School (12 certificates); Binh Minh Primary, Secondary & High School (8 certificates); and the remaining students obtained certificates from Gia Phu, Moc Ly, Phu Yen, and Thao Nguyen high schools.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Tam, Principal of Tong Le High School, Thuan Chau District, Son La Province, reported: For the 2023-2024 school year, the school has 443 12th-grade students. To date, the school has fully disseminated information about the exam, the exam schedule, and new aspects of the exam to 100% of 12th-grade students, and completed the arrangement of examination rooms. Simultaneously, the school continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to encourage and educate residents in the surrounding area to maintain general cleanliness, avoid encroaching on sidewalks and roads, and ensure clear roads and sidewalks, facilitating candidates and ensuring traffic safety during the exam.

Synchronizing solutions to improve the quality of the high school graduation exam.
Prior to that, starting on January 20th, the Son La Provincial Education Union launched the "150-day intensive emulation campaign to dedicate ourselves to improving the quality of the exam." Schools carried out many activities, such as: "All for our beloved students," "No student left behind," and "Supporting students in difficult circumstances." With their love for the profession and dedication to their students, the teachers in the schools actively reviewed the exam material with 12th-grade students.
In addition to the regular morning curriculum, teachers dedicate extra time to reviewing and reinforcing students' knowledge free of charge in the afternoon or evening. To date, schools have organized 136,033 graduation exam review sessions; and 25,448 free tutoring sessions for weak and underperforming students. They have also donated nearly 400 million VND in cash and 300 million VND in in-kind support to disadvantaged 12th-grade students. With the goal of maintaining and improving the actual and sustainable graduation pass rate; and gradually raising the average scores in the exam subjects, the Department of Education and Training has organized training conferences on regulations and procedures for organizing the exam; and conferences to evaluate the results of 12th-grade exam review and solutions to improve the score distribution of the 2024 high school graduation exam subjects.

In addition, to prepare well for the 2024 high school graduation exam, the Standing Committee of the Son La Provincial Party Committee issued Directive No. 42-CT/TU, dated May 25, 2024, on strengthening the direction and coordination of the organization of the 2024 high school graduation exam and university and vocational education admissions. The Son La Provincial People's Committee established the Steering Committee for the 2024 high school graduation exam; assigning tasks to members, ensuring clear responsibilities for each person and task.

Regarding the preparations for the exam, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quang, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La province, informed: To date, the preparation of conditions for the 2024 high school graduation exam has been carried out according to plan. Stages such as: arranging exam locations, preparing facilities, assigning staff, training exam staff, and ensuring security and safety during the exam... have been implemented early and meet requirements. In addition, the department has coordinated with functional units and localities to strengthen guidance and inspection, and develop contingency plans to respond to and handle any unusual situations.
