On September 10, Xinhua News Agency published a letter that Chinese President Xi Jinping wrote more than 20 years ago to his middle school literature teacher to express his gratitude after receiving the book she sent him.
This letter was written by Mr. Tap while he was holding the position of Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Acting Governor of Fujian Province.
"Ms. Tran: Hello! I received your letter. Thank you for giving me the children's literature work and I am very impressed to know that after retirement you are still working hard... I will never forget your kindness."
In the letter, he also expressed his respect for the teaching profession, emphasizing that respecting teachers is a national tradition, and quoted the words of the late Chinese leader Mao Zedong to teacher Tu Dac Lap: "You were my teacher before, are still my teacher now, and will always be my teacher in the future."
According to Mrs. Tran, every time he returned to Beijing for work, Mr. Tap took the time to visit his old teachers.
He also shared: "The teachers taught me a lot, until now I still clearly remember their appearances. They not only imparted knowledge but also taught me how to be a human being, so that I can benefit for the rest of my life."
In presenting the award to Ms. Truong Que Mai - who promoted the establishment of the country's first free girls' high school - Mr. Tap praised her "dedication to the cause of education to alleviate poverty, lighting up hope for girls in the mountains and forests."
At a rural primary school in Chongqing, Xi Jinping also praised the teachers who stayed there: "I hope to see a team of teachers like this, attached to the countryside, nurturing a generation of excellent children for the country. The work you do is very meaningful."
Recently, eight teachers from the special program in rural areas, who were honored as "National Outstanding Teachers", sent a letter to General Secretary Xi Jinping to report on their work, share their teaching experiences, and express their determination to stick with the cause of rural education.
In a reply letter on September 8, the Chinese leader once again emphasized that education is a matter of national importance, with teachers being the root.
"I hope that you will continue to maintain your passion for education, constantly improve your teaching and training capacity, care for and guide children to grow up healthy with all your heart, and strive to nurture more builders and inheritors of socialism who are comprehensively developed in morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics, and labor, to contribute to the cause of rural revitalization and the building of an educational powerhouse," he wrote.
