Phu Ninh Reservoir begins its first flood release of 2025 to respond to Typhoon No. 12.

At 8:00 a.m. on October 22, Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. began operating and regulating Phu Ninh reservoir for the first time and the unit's 2025 natural disaster response plan.

Water is released through the spillway of Phu Ninh reservoir at a flow rate of 30 m3/s to 700 m3/s to ensure the safety of the dam and regulate flooding in the downstream area.

According to Do Van Tung, General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One-Member Limited Company, the company regulates water flow through deep spillways, with a flow rate ranging from 30 m3/s to 700 m3/s.

The first operation and water regulation of Phu Ninh Reservoir in 2025 will be carried out in accordance with Decision No. 2803/QD-UBND dated September 12, 2013, of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province on the promulgation of the Phu Ninh Reservoir operation and regulation process and the disaster response plan for 2025, which has been approved by the Company and sent to relevant agencies and units.

According to Do Van Tung, General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One-Member Limited Company, to ensure the safety of reservoirs and dams and to regulate floods for downstream areas, the unit is strictly implementing Official Dispatch No. 08/CD-UBND dated October 21, 2025, of the Da Nang City People's Committee on proactively responding to heavy rain and Typhoon No. 12.

Residents in the affected areas were specifically informed about the flood release schedule so they could proactively take preventive measures to minimize potential damage.

The water level of Phu Ninh Lake at 13:00 on October 21, 2025 was +28.06m. According to the short-term hydrological forecast and warning bulletin for Da Nang City No. TVHN-294/DNAN dated October 21, 2025, from the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Station, the predicted water level of the Tam Ky River at the Tam Ky station at 7:00 on October 22, 2025, with the highest water level, is +0.99m (Flood alert level I on the Tam Ky River: +1.70m).

To maintain the highest water level in Phu Ninh Lake, ensuring compliance with the operating procedures until the end of October at an elevation of +30.50m, Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One-Member Limited Company will regulate the water level of Phu Ninh Lake as follows: regulating through the deep spillway with a flow rate ranging from 30 m3/s to 700 m3/s. The regulation operation will begin at 8:00 AM on October 22, 2025.

According to Do Van Tung, General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One-Member Limited Company, before operating and regulating the Phu Ninh reservoir, the company reported to the Civil Defense Command, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang city, and the People's Committees of the affected communes and wards including Tam Anh, Huong Tra, Tam Ky, Ban Thach, Thang Dien, Thang Truong, Thang An, Duy Nghia, Duy Xuyen, and Nam Phuoc in Da Nang city. They were instructed to monitor, direct, and promptly inform the downstream people about the operation and regulation of the Phu Ninh reservoir so that they could proactively implement measures to ensure the safety of lives and property and minimize potential damage.
