Phu Ninh Lake begins to discharge floodwaters for the first time in 2025 to respond to storm No. 12

At 8:00 a.m. on October 22, Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. began operating and regulating Phu Ninh reservoir for the first time and the unit's 2025 natural disaster response plan.

Water is discharged through the spillway of Phu Ninh reservoir with a flow rate of 30 m3/s to 700 m3/s to ensure dam safety and flood control for downstream areas.

General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. Do Van Tung said that the Company regulates through deep spillways, with a flow rate from 30 m3/s to 700 m3/s.

The first operation and regulation of Phu Ninh reservoir water in 2025 is carried out according to Decision No. 2803/QD-UBND dated September 12, 2013 of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province on promulgating the Operation and Regulation Procedure of Phu Ninh reservoir and the Disaster Response Plan in 2025 which has been approved by the Company and sent to agencies and units.

According to General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited Do Van Tung, to ensure dam safety and flood regulation for downstream areas, the unit is strictly implementing telegram No. 08/CD-UBND dated October 21, 2025 of the People's Committee of Da Nang City on proactively responding to heavy rains and storm No. 12.

People in the affected areas are specifically informed about flood discharge times to proactively take preventive measures to minimize possible damage.

The water level of Phu Ninh Lake at 1:00 p.m. on October 21, 2025 was +28.06 m. According to the short-term hydrological forecast and warning bulletin of Da Nang city No. TVHN-294/DNAN dated October 21, 2025 of the Central Hydrometeorological Station, the forecasted water level of Tam Ky River at Tam Ky station at 7:00 a.m. on October 22, 2025 was +0.99 m (Flood level I on Tam Ky River: +1.70 m).

To maintain the highest water level of Phu Ninh Lake, ensuring the correct Operation Procedure until the end of October at the elevation of +30.50m, Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. operates and regulates water of Phu Ninh Lake with the following content: regulating through deep spillway with regulated flow from 30 m3/s to 700 m3/s. The time to start regulating operation is from 8:00 a.m. on October 22, 2025.

General Director of Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. Do Van Tung said that before operating and regulating Phu Ninh reservoir, Quang Nam Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. reported to the Civil Defense Command, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Da Nang city and the People's Committees of communes and wards in the affected area including: Tam Anh, Huong Tra, Tam Ky, Ban Thach, Thang Dien, Thang Truong, Thang An, Duy Nghia, Duy Xuyen, Nam Phuoc, Da Nang city to monitor, direct and promptly notify information on operating and regulating Phu Ninh reservoir to people in the downstream area to proactively deploy plans to ensure safety of life and property, and minimize possible damage.
