Specifically, the two Gold Medals were awarded to Vo Trong Khai (12th grade, Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, Nghe An) and Tran Minh Hoang (12th grade Math 1, Ha Tinh Specialized High School). Notably, both of these outstanding Gold Medal winners are from Ha Tinh province and were classmates in junior high school (9E class, Nguyen Trai Junior High School, Ha Tinh).

The three Silver Medals were awarded to: Nguyen Dang Dung (12th grade, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Nguyen Dinh Tung (11th grade, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi); and Le Phan Duc Man (12th grade, Le Hong Phong High School for Gifted Students, Ho Chi Minh City).

The only female student on the team, Truong Thanh Xuan (11th grade, Bac Ninh Specialized High School), won a Bronze Medal.

With a total score of 188, the Vietnamese team ranked 9th out of 113 countries and territories participating in this year's competition, behind the teams: China (1), USA (2), South Korea (3), Poland and Japan tied for 4th place, Israel (6), India (7), Singapore (8).

Compared to the results of 2024 (2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals and 1 Certificate of Merit), the achievements of the Vietnamese delegation in 2025 have shown a clear improvement.

The 66th International Mathematical Olympiad was held from July 10-20 in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia, with the participation of over 639 contestants from 113 delegations representing countries and territories. The total number of medals awarded this year included: 72 Gold Medals, 104 Silver Medals, and 145 Bronze Medals.

The 2025 IMO exam consists of 6 problems: 2 arithmetic problems, 2 combinatorial problems, 1 geometry problem, and 1 algebra problem (containing combinatorial statements and requiring combinatorial thinking). This reflects the trend this year's exam leaning towards combinatorial content.

Notably, the only geometry problem in the exam, problem number 2, was proposed by Vietnam and authored by Mr. Tran Quang Hung, a teacher at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. This is the fourth time Vietnam has had a problem selected for the official IMO exam, following 1977 (author: Phan Duc Chinh), 1982 (author: Van Nhu Cuong), and 1987 (author: Nguyen Minh Duc).

The closing ceremony and awards presentation for the competition will take place at 4 PM on July 19th (local time) in Australia.
