According to an update from the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), as of the morning of August 26th, due to the impact of Typhoon Kajiki (Typhoon No. 5), many areas in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces still experienced power outages or reductions. However, power companies have made efforts to restore electricity to 509,000 customers and get 2,685 substations back in operation.
Currently, more than 1.6 million customers in these three localities are still without electricity. Specifically, in Thanh Hoa, approximately 395,000 customers are affected; 3,196 substations and 80 medium-voltage lines have experienced malfunctions. EVN Thanh Hoa has restored power to many substations, but some areas are still facing difficulties due to heavy rain, flooding, and disrupted transportation.
In Nghe An province , approximately 870,000 customers are still affected; 6,187 substations and 148 medium-voltage lines are experiencing problems. In Ha Tinh province, approximately 349,000 customers are still affected; 2,466 substations and 62 medium-voltage lines are experiencing problems, with some power poles broken and wires damaged. Many important substations have been restored to ensure power supply to essential loads.

In addition, two 110kV power lines (Cam Xuyen - Ky Anh 2 and T500 - Huong Khe) experienced malfunctions, resulting in power outages and reductions in many areas. On the medium-voltage grid, more than 220 lines/branches were disrupted. Thousands of distribution substations experienced operational disruptions, and units are urgently working to restore power, with over 1,000 substations already having their power restored.
EVNNPC stated that the power sector has mobilized maximum manpower and resources to khắc phục the problem and will strive to restore power supply in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Thanh Hoa provinces as soon as possible, before September 2nd.
Earlier, on the evening of August 25th, the eye of Typhoon No. 5 made landfall in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, causing strong winds of level 10, gusting to level 15. According to preliminary information, the typhoon ripped off roofs of houses, public buildings, and educational facilities; trees and power poles were knocked down; and there were widespread power outages (in Ha Tinh, 60 out of 69 wards and communes were without electricity)...
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the remnants of Typhoon Kajiki will continue to cause heavy rain until August 26th in the mountainous, midland, and lowland areas of Northern Vietnam. In particular, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh provinces will experience heavy to very heavy rain, with a particularly high risk of deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides.
