MediaTek representative quoted IDC Worldwide as saying that as of the third quarter of 2024, more than 12 million mobile devices in Vietnam were ready to connect to the 5G network, showing great potential in expanding and applying this technology. The rapid increase in 5G-enabled devices reflects the strong digital transformation trend and the increasing demand of users for high-speed, low-latency connections.
5G is the fastest growing mobile technology today.
With the development of 5G, Vietnam is gradually moving closer to the goal of building a comprehensive digital ecosystem, promoting applications in IoT, AI, Cloud and many other fields.
In addition, the 5G network also opens up great opportunities for domestic technology enterprises and network operators when investing in infrastructure and developing new services. With this potential, Vietnam can completely become one of the pioneering countries in the region in exploiting and applying 5G in life and production.
Also at the event, MediaTek introduced the 5G RedCap trend, a reduced version of 5G with low cost and high energy efficiency, widely applied in devices such as smart watches, AR glasses, 5G computers, security cameras and IoT devices. This technology has been tested in Southeast Asia, Australia - New Zealand and the Middle East - Africa with partners such as Ericsson and Nokia.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Son, Director of Mobile Service Center, Viettel Telecom said that as the first network operator to launch the largest 5G network in Vietnam, Viettel's 5G network had 3 million users after only 2 weeks of launch, now reaching approximately 4 million and is expected to increase to 10 million after 1 year.
Viettel's survey shows that 80% of 5G customers are concentrated in urban areas, industrial parks and tourist areas, while customers in rural areas mainly use 4G. This is also the reason why Viettel decided to prioritize 5G coverage in provincial capitals and areas that will use 5G the most. According to Mr. Son, 21% of Viettel subscribers already own 5G phones, 70% of subscribers in the coverage area have used 5G and traffic accounts for 30% in deployment areas, showing that the attraction of this technology is very large.
Proving that 5G is growing strongly globally, Mr. Hoang Hung Hai, Product Director of Qualcomm, said that the number of global mobile connections is increasing rapidly, with 2.1 billion 5G phones sold and more than 300 carriers launching 5G services. "5G technology is expected to contribute nearly 900 billion USD to the global economy by 2030," Mr. Hoang Hung Hai emphasized.
The 5G Day 2024 event organized by Viettel attracted more than 1,000 partners, businesses and guests. The event included 50 technology booths and in-depth seminars with 14 presentations from leading experts. The main topics focused on updating technology trends and multi-industry 5G applications in manufacturing, entertainment, digital transformation and cloud and AI development. The presentations all affirmed the great potential of 5G in promoting smart connectivity, economic growth and digital transformation.
