(Dan Tri Newspaper) - A recent survey by recruitment consulting firm Robert Walters shows that 71% of Vietnamese people living abroad intend to return to their homeland to live and work within the next 5 years.
Notably, this rate is significantly higher than that of the other three Southeast Asian countries surveyed, namely Indonesia (60%), the Philippines (62%), and Singapore (58%).
Sixty percent of respondents in a survey by Robert Walters – a recruitment consulting firm founded in 1985 in the UK and operating in 27 countries – said the economic situation would influence their decision to return to Vietnam. Emotional, social, and cultural ties to Vietnam also motivate many overseas Vietnamese to return home.
Amidst a volatile global economy, stable development in many sectors within the country has reinforced the decision of a large number of overseas Vietnamese to return and contribute to their homeland.
This survey also points to several other key factors that increase the desire of overseas Vietnamese to return to their homeland.
62% of those surveyed said that their emotional, social, and cultural connection to Vietnam motivated them to return home. This figure represents a 13% increase compared to the last survey in 2021.

Furthermore, 53% of survey participants believe they will have attractive career opportunities in Vietnam. In addition, 40% also stated that they want to return home to be closer to and take care of their family and relatives in Vietnam.
The economy also has a positive impact on Vietnamese people living abroad. Up to 66% said they believe in the stability and development of the Vietnamese economy, and this is the top reason they choose to return.
In addition, opportunities to develop business investment projects and a better standard of living in Vietnam are also attractive factors for them to return.
According to the survey, factors related to work, salary, and benefits are also important to this workforce group. Regarding salary, 27% of Vietnamese people living abroad said they would accept a salary reduction of 30% or less compared to their current salary if they returned home.
Meanwhile, 26% said they wanted a salary that was commensurate with their experience and role, as well as the general labor market rate.
