DNVN - On November 20th, a delegation from Saigon Port International Container Services Joint Venture Company Limited – SSA (SSIT Port) visited Da Nang Port to learn about the practical results of digital transformation in management and business operations.

Digital transformation brings many benefits to Da Nang Port.

The delegation of SSIT Port led by Deputy General Director Phan Hoang Vu was introduced by the leaders of Da Nang Port specifically about the smart port management system, which helps monitor and manage port operations effectively. At the same time, they learned in depth about the ERP software system applied to human resource management, cargo safety monitoring and operating procedures at Da Nang Port.

Deputy General Director of SSIT Port Phan Hoang Vu (in the blue shirt) expressed his impression after visiting the Tien Sa port area to observe the digital transformation activities firsthand.

“Da Nang Port has oriented itself towards developing and applying IT to production, digitizing all stages of the operational process, with particular emphasis on container handling. Pioneering digital transformation in Vietnam's seaport system has brought many benefits to Da Nang Port, reducing costs and increasing added value for customers,” said Duong Duc Xuan, Deputy General Director of Da Nang Port.

Accordingly, the automatic container gate system (Autogate) at Tien Sa port area was researched and successfully deployed by Da Nang Port in March 2021. This is also the first port in Vietnam to successfully deploy automatic container gates. In addition, the application of technology to QC cranes helps ensure safety in operation and prevents container collisions during loading and unloading.

The automated vehicle tracking system within the gantry crane (eCPS) at Da Nang Port also made a strong impression on the SSIT Port delegation. This is a precise, high-speed vehicle tracking system that is more streamlined than traditional tracking systems thanks to the use of artificial intelligence.

eCPS utilizes industrial cameras connected to a configured system capable of AI-powered object recognition; inferring handling strategies; selecting representative points for objects; calculating coordinates; displaying coordinates; tracking objects; processing images; and monitoring operations.

Along with that, the industrial equipment on the eTractor tractor to receive command signals from the TOS system, then process and transmit to the terminal device to display to the driver is recognized as an adaptable and highly valuable solution in the industrial mining environment.

“With this project, Da Nang Port plays the role of both the design unit and the production and assembly management unit for both hardware and software. The equipment researched and successfully applied by Da Nang Port since April 2023 has brought in billions of dong in profits each year,” said Mr. Duong Duc Xuan.

According to Mr. Phan Hoang Vu, SSIT Port's visit and working session at Da Nang Port created a valuable opportunity for both sides to learn from and share experiences. The exchange of information on safety, technology, and IT not only helps improve the operational efficiency of each port but also contributes to the sustainable development of Vietnam's logistics industry.

3 pillars of development for Da Nang Port

Also on November 20th, Da Nang Port welcomed a delegation from the Department of Land Transport (Ministry of Transport of Thailand), led by Ms. Wanpen Kachornklin, Director General, who visited to learn about issues related to port operations, logistics, and transportation of transit, oversized, and super-heavy cargo.

Mr. Duong Duc Xuan stated that Da Nang Port's development is based on three pillars: seaport, logistics, and tourism /services. Of these, the seaport is the core business; the focus is on boosting logistics to enhance the port's competitiveness by concentrating cargo; and the development of tourism services aims to maximize the advantages of existing resources and those with future growth potential.

According to Ms. Wanpen Kachornklin, Da Nang Port is not only one of the most important seaports in Vietnam but also a bridge between countries in the Southeast Asian region. She hopes that the two sides will continue to share experiences and technologies and jointly develop solutions to enhance port operational efficiency as well as optimize the supply chain and enhance port competitiveness.
