Due to the influence of Typhoon No. 3, from the night of September 6th to the morning of September 7th, Co To Island experienced strong winds and heavy rain. At 8:20 AM today, Typhoon No. 3 caused large waves and fierce winds and rain in Co To district.
Ms. Le Thi Loan (born in 1981), owner of CoTo View Hotel on Co To Island, said that her hotel has 13 rooms that regularly serve tourists, and is currently providing free accommodation to locals to take shelter from the storm.
Ms. Loan said that, recognizing the intensity of the storm, she and her husband discussed the matter and decided to allow people whose houses were not structurally sound to come and stay with them.
Shortly afterward, Ms. Loan posted information on social media, including the address and phone number, so that people could find the hotel. For those who were not healthy enough to go to the hotel, Ms. Loan and her husband, along with hotel staff and local authorities, went to pick them up.
By around 11 PM last night, more than 30 people from various households on Co To Island had arrived at Mrs. Loan's hotel. All of them were residents and laborers who either lived in flimsy houses or rented rooms on the island.
"There's a power outage on the island. The hotel is currently running a generator to provide electricity for the residents, and all meals are served free of charge. At times like these, we really need to support and protect each other," Ms. Loan said.
According to Ms. Loan, nine rooms are currently being used for residents, and they are still accepting those in need.
