(Dan Tri Newspaper) - On Ta Hien Street (Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi ), many Western tourists cheered and encouraged the Vietnamese national team, hoping the players would bring home a victory.
At 8 PM, the second leg of the ASEAN Cup final between Vietnam and Thailand officially kicked off at the Rajamangala Stadium in Thailand. Hours before that, a large crowd of locals and foreign tourists, wearing red shirts with yellow stars and carrying banners, flocked to Ta Hien Street to cheer on the Vietnamese team. Luke (from England) and Ellinor (from Finland) had seen images of Vietnamese people celebrating wildly on the internet. On their first day in Hanoi, they bought two shirts with the Vietnamese flag to share the joy with fans after the match if Vietnam won the championship. "We're excited because we've never experienced a 'celebration' in Vietnam before. If Vietnam wins the cup, we'll stay up all night to celebrate," Luke said excitedly. Tim's family (from Sydney, Australia) – the one in the black shirt on the far left – arrived early at Ta Hien Street. He bought red "Vietnam Champions" headbands for all family members to wear, hoping the Vietnamese team would win. During their two weeks in Vietnam, this large family of ten enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of football cheering. "I was very impressed by the sight of the red flags with yellow stars everywhere, and the large, enthusiastic crowds cheering for the Vietnamese team," Tim said. The couple Maria and Alex from Italy squeezed through the crowded streets of Ta Hien to cheer on the Vietnamese team. They were impressed by the much more vibrant atmosphere compared to watching football in their homeland and predicted a 2-1 score in favor of Vietnam. "In Italy, whenever there are football matches, we usually go to a pub or stay at home instead of pouring out onto the streets like this. I really like this atmosphere, it's rare in the world ," Maria shared. People gathered in front of the big screen, cheering together for the Vietnamese team. From the moment the opening whistle blew, the players from both sides competed fiercely, and fans anxiously followed every move of the ball.
Many foreign visitors used their cameras to capture moments of the Vietnamese team's performance, as well as the enthusiastic atmosphere of the cheering crowd. In the 8th minute of the match, following a free kick from Vietnam's own half, the ball bounced off the ground, past a Thai defender, and Tuan Hai broke free to chip the ball over the home team's goalkeeper to score. Many Western spectators cheered in excitement. A few minutes later, the tourists expressed their disappointment when the Vietnamese player missed a scoring opportunity right in front of the Thai team's goal. As the Vietnamese players put pressure on the Thai goal, the Western tourists cheered along with the shouts of the Vietnamese fans: "Vietnam champions!" Some foreign tourists said that if Vietnam won the championship, they would stay up all night celebrating with the fans.
