During the 2020-2025 term, the Party and State's policies and guidelines on science and technology development in general and the field of atomic energy in particular will continue to be promoted, which is an important driving force to promote professional activities, creating opportunities for the Party Committee of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute to successfully complete the set goals.
In particular, in the current context, digital transformation, green economic development, knowledge-based economy, etc. are favorable opportunities for the nuclear energy sector to affirm its role in the national technology ecosystem.
Resolution "lighting the way"
Mr. Tran Chi Thanh, Party Secretary and Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, emphasized: Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation and policies to promote research, high-tech application and technology transfer are important levers for the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute to promote research, expand the scope of activities, improve applications, and make practical contributions to key economic and technical sectors, especially in researching, mastering and developing national strategic technologies.
According to Mr. Tran Chi Thanh, over the past time, the application and deployment activities and scientific and technical services of the units under the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute have been maintained stably and grown over the years.
In particular, the Institute's revenue in 2024 will grow strongly, reaching 441.39 billion VND; while in 2023, the revenue will only reach 359.7 billion VND.
The units have coordinated with businesses to promote the implementation of nuclear engineering and radiation technology to actively contribute to socio-economic development, in which some results on radioactive isotope production, material manufacturing, testing and evaluation in industry have been welcomed by businesses.
The Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute added that the 2025-2030 term is the period to begin implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.
With the Party and State's policy of continuing to consider science and technology development as a top national policy, in which nuclear power is a strategic pillar in national development, playing a key role in ensuring energy security, promoting socio-economic development and enhancing national science and technology potential, together with the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation, the Law on Atomic Energy (amended), Resolution No. 193/2025/QH15, Decree 88/2025/ND-CP, Decision 245/QD-TTg on the Plan for the development of atomic energy applications for the period 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, favorable conditions have been created for the development of science and technology, expanding the application of atomic energy to serve socio-economic development.
In particular, the Party and Government's policy of restarting the Vietnam Nuclear Power Program from the end of 2024 creates a new and exciting atmosphere for the nuclear industry as well as the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute to develop.

Become the leading research and development center in Vietnam
The Government and especially the leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology are interested in, orienting and creating conditions in terms of both human resources and resources for the Institute to promote its role as a national focal point for atomic energy to research, master and deploy strategic technologies on nuclear power and rare earths, creating favorable conditions for implementing projects such as: Key laboratory aiming to master small modular reactor technology SMR; Project to master rare earth and titanium processing technology; Research, design and manufacture of electron beam accelerators... conducting research to serve the nuclear power program; implementing national science and technology programs; building a team of high-quality research staff; promoting research on the application of radiation technology and nuclear engineering; building long-term capacity on nuclear power and implementing an autonomous mechanism according to the Government's regulations.
According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh, in the new development context, the Institute needs to continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, innovate thinking, improve leadership capacity, and affirm its role as the leading research and development center in Vietnam and the ASEAN region on nuclear technology and atomic energy. At the same time, focus on mastering core technologies, strategic technologies, especially in research to create high added value from uranium, rare earths and products with socio-economic impacts to meet the country's sustainable development requirements.
Mr. Tran Chi Thanh, Director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, emphasized the goals that the Institute needs to achieve by 2030. Accordingly, the Institute focuses on deploying strategic technologies on nuclear power and rare earths, promoting the role of a research center and deploying applications of atomic energy for peaceful purposes; promoting research, technology development, transferring research results into practice; gradually mastering SMR small modular reactor technology; implementing research programs to master rare earth and titanium processing technology; effectively implementing programs, topics, and projects at the national, ministerial, and grassroots levels associated with the goal of sustainable development of the atomic energy industry.
In particular, in the coming period, the Institute will focus on promoting applied research in nuclear medicine, industry, agriculture, environment and radiation safety; developing modern technical infrastructure, accessing advanced technology, mastering technology to prepare conditions to participate in the nuclear power program.
The Institute focuses on developing a plan to train professional staff to meet the requirements of the Strategy for applying atomic energy in economic sectors and prepare for the implementation of key projects for the period 2025-2030; effectively implementing scientific research activities and applying nuclear techniques and radiation technology in economic sectors, coordinating with enterprises to apply the Institute's scientific and technological results in practice./.
