Bac Ninh: Timely prevention of people transferring 450 million VND to scammers

People should not listen to or follow the requests of strangers; when detecting suspicious signs, they should inform relatives and the nearest police agency for coordination in handling.

The Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department ( Bac Ninh Provincial Police) said that the unit promptly coordinated with Tien Phong Bank, Que Vo branch to prevent a citizen from transferring 450 million VND to a scammer impersonating the police.

Previously, on the afternoon of December 2, at Tien Phong Bank, Que Vo branch, Bac Ninh province, Ms. NTL in Chi Lang ward, Bac Ninh province went to the bank to transfer 450 million VND.

However, during the exchange, Tien Phong Bank staff noticed that Ms. L. had some signs of anxiety along with the large amount of money transferred, so they reported it to the bank's controller. At the same time, Tien Phong Bank reported and requested the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Bac Ninh Provincial Police to coordinate and support.

Through the process of mobilization and propaganda by the staff of Tien Phong Bank, Que Vo branch and the police officers of the Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department, Ms. L. realized that this was a scam by the scammers impersonating the police, promptly stopped the bank transaction to transfer money to the subjects, thus preserving all of her assets.

Ms. L. said that during the period from November 20 to December 2, Ms. L. continuously received many phone calls from subjects with many different scenarios, threatening her about being involved in a drug case and asking her to secretly transfer 450 million VND to the account provided by the subjects to serve the investigation.

Due to fear of legal threats against her, Ms. L. went to another bank to withdraw money and then followed the subjects' instructions to go to Tien Phong Bank, Que Vo branch to complete the procedures to transfer money to the scammer.

Through the above incident, the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Bac Ninh Provincial Police) recommends that, to avoid being victims of similar property appropriation scams, people should not listen to and follow the requests of strangers.

When receiving a call claiming to be from the Police, the Procuracy, the Court, etc., you must request a valid invitation or summons to be sent to the local Police where you reside.

When detecting suspicious signs, people must inform relatives and notify the nearest police agency for coordination in handling./.
