At the workshop "Making Khanh Hoa a Comprehensive Green Destination" held on the afternoon of September 11th in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province), transportation and planning experts all agreed that Khanh Hoa is aiming for the goal of covering green transportation infrastructure and green buildings.

Regarding the development of green transportation infrastructure in Khanh Hoa, Mr. Chu Van An - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Construction - stated that from a green infrastructure perspective, Khanh Hoa province is closely adhering to the approved green growth plan, with the goal of Khanh Hoa becoming a centrally-governed city by 2030.

The green transportation system includes nine indicators, focusing on increasing the number of vehicles, developing charging infrastructure, increasing the density of roads, non-motorized transportation routes, and the proportion of public passenger transport.

According to Mr. An, Khanh Hoa is one of the leading localities in green transportation transformation, with 2 bus routes using entirely electric vehicles and 13 vehicles put into operation by the end of 2024, raising the ratio of green energy buses to the total number of vehicles in circulation to 11%, exceeding the set target.

"The spirit from 2025 onwards is that new investments will be in electric buses, and investors are already implementing this," Mr. An said.

Furthermore, to realize the goal of green transportation coverage, Mr. An stated that the province has currently developed 42 electric vehicle charging stations and is continuing to expand the number of charging stations.

However, according to him, the implementation of green growth projects is currently facing many difficulties such as: the investment efficiency for green growth is not high while there is no support mechanism for businesses, the provincial budget is unlikely to be balanced; and the connection of wastewater treatment plants is not synchronized.

It is necessary to preserve cultural identity and protect the environment in construction planning.

Architect Tran Duc Phi, a member of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association and Vice President of the Khanh Hoa Architects Association, stated that from the perspective of urban planning in Khanh Hoa, attention should be paid to the issues of identity and the environment.

Due to rapid urbanization, we need to pay attention to the planning framework to minimize the environmental impact of planning.

Regarding the preservation of cultural identity in urban planning, Mr. Phi suggested that opinions should be sought from experts, scientists , and the community, and that technologies related to digital planning should be applied so that anyone can access and understand the plan, and then provide feedback.

In addition, specific urban designs are needed to ensure building density, height, color harmony, and to aim for green building certifications when constructing buildings in Khanh Hoa.

Dr. Vo Si Tuan, former Director of the Nha Trang Institute of Oceanography, believes that green development requires collective greening, meaning synchronized efforts.

He shared his ideas on how to "exploit" coral reef tourism within a 30km radius near the shore. He believes this is a huge and unique potential of the Khánh Hòa sea area compared to many other places in the world.

Countries with coral reefs similar to Vietnam have reaped many benefits while still preserving the marine environment.

Dr. Vo Si Tuan emphasized that the impact of human activities through tourism today is a serious concern.

"If there is a marine environmental incident, coral reefs will be harder to recover because of emissions from typical tourism activities like those currently taking place. Con Dao once experienced an incident affecting its coral reefs, but it recovered well because the environmental impact was not as great as in Khanh Hoa," he said.

Looking at it from a coral reef perspective, Dr. Vo Si Tuan asserts that only the development of genuine green tourism and ecotourism can ensure development without conflicting with conservation, minimizing environmental impact, and hindering sustainable economic development.

Dr. Tuan further shared that it is necessary to plan the marine space: areas for aquaculture and fisheries, offshore wind power, and experiential tourism areas in the marine and island environment… When there is a planning zoning, appropriate protection measures will be in place.

Experiences in developing sustainable tourism from luxury resorts.

Ms. Dinh Thuy Nga - Deputy Director of Sustainable Development at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay - presented a paper on "Experiences in building and developing green and sustainable tourism areas" - Photo: QUANG DINH

Ms. Dinh Thuy Nga, Deputy Director of Sustainable Development at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay, believes that the uniqueness of Six Senses Ninh Van Bay stems from its focus on wellness and sustainable development.

According to Ms. Nga, to make the resort "green," the villas are all made of wood and bamboo to ensure environmental friendliness and health, and the resort is gradually shifting towards using non-plastic items.

In addition, the resort has also partially restored the coral reefs in the Hon Heo sea area.

According to Ms. Nga, in 2022, the resort achieved 28% solar coverage combined with a heat pump system, providing tens of thousands of reusable glass bottles each month.

The resort has a sustainability department to operate the system in the "greenest" way possible, utilizing leftover fabrics for recycling into economical, environmentally friendly products. In addition, the resort conducts monthly reviews of waste data.

From 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on September 11th, the Green Experience Day will take place in the park area in front of the Muong Thanh Luxury Khanh Hoa Hotel (Con residential area, Nha Trang ward), open to all residents and tourists.

The festival features booths showcasing and allowing visitors to experience eco-friendly products and local specialty gifts; an exhibition and experience area for green technologies such as electric vehicles, lighting, and solar energy; and workshops on making toys from recycled waste.

The event features a "Exchange Recyclable Waste for Green Gifts" program. Bring 5 items of "recyclable waste" such as plastic bottles/metal cans/old batteries/milk cartons/cardboard… and you will receive a succulent plant.

Attendees (free of charge) also get to participate in a lucky draw with a grand prize of a VinFast Evo Grand electric motorbike worth 21 million VND and many other valuable gifts such as: Cocoon vegan cosmetics, Dutch Lady milk, SM Green vouchers, free La Viet coffee…
