Representatives performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the "An Giang Sunshine House".
An Giang is one of the few localities selected by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to implement the "Sunshine House" model – a model supporting women and girls who have experienced violence in An Giang province. This model will be implemented at the An Giang Social Protection Center (Long Xuyen ward, An Giang province) from December 2024 to December 2026, with a total budget of USD 130,000, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), aiming to protect women and girls who are vulnerable to gender-based violence.
Provincial leaders and representatives from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) visited the "An Giang Sunshine House".
The project aims to promote gender equality, prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and support victims of violence in accessing essential and quality comprehensive services.
It is projected that by 2026, 100 women and girls will have access to and utilize the services of "The Sunshine House"; 60 service providers will receive capacity-building training; and 1,000 people will have access to information from "The Sunshine House"…
Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, delivered a speech at the inauguration ceremony of the "An Giang Sunshine House".
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Minh Thuy emphasized: The implementation of the "Sunshine House" model is not only a concrete manifestation of the Party and State's policies on gender equality and the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of women and children, but also a testament to the concern and efforts of all levels, sectors, organizations, and the community in building a safe, compassionate, and violence-free society.
With its function as a place for receiving, advising, providing medical care, legal support, psychological support, and facilitating reintegration into the community, "The Sunshine House" will become a reliable and timely haven, sheltering and assisting women and girls who unfortunately fall into difficult circumstances.

Following the inauguration ceremony, the An Giang Department of Health, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), organized the launch ceremony of the "An Giang Sunshine House"; and held a consultation meeting to discuss the development of a coordination mechanism for referring and supporting women and girls who have experienced violence in An Giang province.
Mr. Matthew David Jackson, UNFPA Representative in Vietnam, and Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, Deputy Director of the An Giang Department of Health, signed the handover agreement for the "Sunshine House" to An Giang province.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Affairs and Gender Equality (Ministry of Interior) Luong Thi Hai Anh emphasized: An Giang is the 6th province nationwide, and the first province in the Mekong Delta, to launch this model, with the desire to promote effectiveness and raise public awareness in preventing and combating gender-based violence, in order to move towards a violence-free society and contribute to the United Nations' goal of "leaving no one behind".
