This morning (September 25th), in Thai Nguyen city, an exchange and demonstration of communication initiatives to raise awareness about gender equality among ethnic minority youth took place, with the theme "Ethnic minority youth pioneering the change of gender stereotypes for the aspiration of development" in 2024.
The program is organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training and the University of Science - Thai Nguyen University.

The Communication Initiative Exchange Program included 7 teams of outstanding ethnic minority students from 7 universities and academies in the northern mountainous region, namely: University of Science - Thai Nguyen University, Tay Bac University, Tan Trao University, National Academy of Public Administration, University of Education - Thai Nguyen University, Academy of Ethnic Minorities, Vietnam Women's Academy, along with the presence and support of more than 1,000 students from the University of Science - Thai Nguyen University.
Ms. Lo Thi Thu Thuy, Head of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, delivered the opening remarks at the exchange program.
In her opening remarks at the Communication Initiative Exchange Program, Ms. Lo Thi Thu Thuy, Head of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Department of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, stated: At this exchange, the organizers aim to seek and disseminate innovative initiatives and best practices in raising awareness among ethnic minority youth and students about gender equality, eliminating outdated customs, and preserving and promoting the positive traditional cultural practices of ethnic minorities. Simultaneously, the program creates a forum for students and young people to share and showcase innovative and effective approaches tailored to their specific needs, contributing to the promotion of gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous regions.

The participating teams delivered impressive performances with meaningful messages, high applicability, and connections to the unique cultural characteristics of ethnic minority communities in the northern mountainous region. “Many initiatives and communication products will be shared and replicated to raise awareness among young people, university students, and those in their local communities. They will become active communicators, pioneers in changing perceptions, gradually eliminating harmful customs in life, and continue to develop appropriate initiatives to contribute, together with their families, schools, and communities, to building an equal and developing living environment,” said Ms. Lo Thi Thu Thuy.
The performance by students from the Vietnam Women's Academy: Daughters don't want to live by the beaten path, they don't want to live according to the outdated thinking of their parents. Daughters want to overcome themselves, to fulfill their dreams.
A performance by students from the National Academy of Public Administration: A daughter gets accepted into university, but her parents prevent her from attending because they believe that a lot of education for a girl is pointless.
Entry from the National Academy of Ethnic Minorities: Aspiration for equality, for the right of girls to receive an education just like boys.
The content of the communication initiatives focuses on raising awareness of gender equality among ethnic minority youth, promoting the elimination of outdated cultural practices among ethnic minorities (such as child marriage, consanguineous marriage, home births, gender-based violence, and rituals during illness), contributing to the realization of gender equality and addressing pressing social issues for women, children, and youth in ethnic minority and mountainous regions.

BTC awarded 1 first prize worth 10 million VND, 2 second prizes worth 7 million VND each, 2 third prizes worth 5 million VND each, and 2 consolation prizes worth 3 million VND each.
