
Regarding the information about the tournament, Chief of Office of the Vietnam Journalists Association Phan Toan Thang, Deputy Head of the Standing Organizing Committee of the tournament, said that the tournament took place in the last month of the year, marking the end of a series of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, while emphasizing the role of connecting, fostering solidarity and professional qualities of the team of journalists.
The Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Championship has become a sports playground with strong influence in the press community, contributing to the formation of a healthy cultural life in press agencies, promoting the sports movement following the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh.
Not only a competition, the tournament is also an opportunity to gather, create a space for exchange and share expertise between press agencies from central to local levels, thereby enhancing understanding and cooperation in professional activities.
In 2025, the tournament will continue to be large-scale with the participation of members of the Journalists Association from all provinces and cities across the country. The opening ceremony will take place on the morning of December 19, the finals and the award ceremony are scheduled to be held on the afternoon of December 21.
This year's tournament includes 14 competitions, covering teams, singles and doubles, divided by age group and specific target audience. Specifically: men's team, women's team (regardless of age); men's singles under 45 years old, men's singles 45 years old and older; women's singles under 45 years old, women's singles 45 years old and older; men's doubles, women's doubles (regardless of age); mixed doubles under 45 years old, mixed doubles 45 years old and older; men's doubles with leaders, women's singles with leaders; men's doubles with leaders and women's doubles with leaders.
To ensure fairness, the tournament organizers stipulate that table tennis players at the national level, level I from 2019 and earlier are allowed to participate in team and doubles events but are not allowed to compete in singles. Players at the national level, level I from 2019 and later will not be allowed to participate in the tournament.
The competition format is applied according to national professional standards. In the team event, the teams compete in the Swaythling format of 5 singles matches (A–X, B–Y, C–Z, A–Y, B–X). The singles and doubles events are played in the 5-game best-of-3 format. Depending on the number of athletes registered in each event, the organizing committee will decide on the format of the competition: knockout or round-robin.
At the end of the tournament, the Organizing Committee will award Cups, flags, medals and cash prizes to the groups, pairs and individuals who won First, Second and Third prizes.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi, Head of the Organizing Committee, emphasized that this is a sports tournament for journalists and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association. Although it is a non-professional playground, it has been organized for many years, increasingly perfected thanks to the experience accumulated through each season and the support of the Hanoi People's Committee, especially the Department of Culture, Sports and experts in the field of table tennis.
This year's tournament has a special significance, being the last major event in a series of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21). Held in the last month of 2025, a year rich in the imprint of the press, the tournament is an opportunity to affirm the spirit of solidarity, courage and responsibility of the revolutionary press force.
“2025 is a year of many changes in the press, with a large workload and high pressure. We were concerned that this could affect the number of participating athletes. However, this year the number of registered units and athletes is even higher than last year. This is a good sign and the initial success of the tournament,” the Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association emphasized.
The Head of the Organizing Committee also emphasized that honesty and nobility are the core values of the sports playground. The Organizing Committee hopes that through the media and press system, it will continue to spread the beautiful spirit of the tournament, contributing to minimizing violations of regulations, fraud or acts that affect the reputation of the tournament.
“The success of any sporting event depends largely on communication work. We expect the team of reporters and journalists to accompany and promote the tournament to make it a success, while contributing to creating a positive atmosphere for the series of activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day and welcome the new year,” Mr. Nguyen Duc Loi emphasized.
The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association added that this year, there were many delegations from distant provinces and cities, especially the Southern and Central Highlands regions. This is proof that the tournament's appeal is not only limited to the Northern region or major press agencies, but has truly become a common playground for journalists across the country.
With the scale, tradition and special significance of the event, the 18th Vietnam Journalists Association Cup Table Tennis Championship in 2025 promises to continue to be an inspiring sports festival for journalists across the country. Not only creating a playground for physical training, the tournament also ignites the spirit of solidarity, spreading the beautiful image of the journalism industry in the year of the century-long anniversary of the formation and development of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.
