On March 6th, in Vinh Phuoc B commune (Go Quao district, Kien Giang province), the Ministry of Transport, together with the leaders of Kien Giang and Bac Lieu provinces, held the groundbreaking ceremony for the investment project to build the Ho Chi Minh Highway section from Rach Soi to Ben Nhat and from Go Quao to Vinh Thuan.
Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang, along with representatives from the National Assembly's committees, the three provinces of Kien Giang, Bac Lieu , and Ca Mau, and local people, attended the event.
Accordingly, the project has a total length of approximately 51.94 km. Of this, the Rach Soi - Ben Nhat section is 11.2 km long, starting at Km0+000 (Km 88+540 National Highway 61) in Chau Thanh district and ending at Km 11+200 (Km 77+00 National Highway 61) in Giong Rieng district (Kien Giang province).
The Go Quao - Vinh Thuan section is 40.74 km long, with its starting point at Km20+600 (Km 67+213 of National Highway 61) in Go Quao district and its end point at Km 61+342 (Km 67+174 of National Highway 61) in Vinh Thuan district (Kien Giang province).
The road construction scale is a Class III road in a flat area, with 4 lanes, a design speed of 80 km/h, and bridges along this section of road are designed using steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed reinforced concrete.
The project has a total investment of over 3,904 billion VND from the state budget, with the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board as the investor, and is expected to be substantially completed in 2025.
The investment project to construct the Ho Chi Minh Highway sections from Rach Soi to Ben Nhat and Go Quao to Vinh Thuan is a component project of the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project, a nationally important project whose investment and construction were approved by the National Assembly in Resolutions No. 38/2004/QH11 dated December 3, 2004, No. 66/2013/QH13 dated November 29, 2013, and Resolution No. 63/2022/QH15 dated June 16, 2022. The goal is to complete the investment and construction of the Cho Chu - Trung Son Junction and Rach Soi - Ben Nhat - Go Quao - Vinh Thuan sections by 2025, essentially connecting the entire Ho Chi Minh Highway.
Construction has begun on the Ho Chi Minh Highway through Kien Giang and Bac Lieu provinces, costing nearly 4,000 billion VND.
The project starts at Pac Bo (Cao Bang province) and ends at Dat Mui (Ca Mau province), spanning 3,183km (2,499km main route, 684km western branch). To date, 2,488/2,744km have been completed, along with approximately 258km of the branch line, with the remaining 256km currently under construction.
Specifically, the Rach Soi - Ben Nhat and Go Quao - Vinh Thuan sections are among the final component projects to be invested in and constructed, aiming to essentially connect the entire Ho Chi Minh Highway by 2025.
The Ho Chi Minh Highway construction project, specifically the Rach Soi - Ben Nhat and Go Quao - Vinh Thuan sections, is a crucial project in the Southwestern region of Vietnam. It is one of the key infrastructure projects that will drive socio-economic development, attract investment, and promote urban, industrial, commercial, tourism, and service development.
Upon completion, the Rach Soi - Ben Nhat and Go Quao - Vinh Thuan routes will form a complete inter-regional road transport system, reducing traffic congestion on local roads, promoting socio-economic development and tourism, and strengthening national defense and security in Kien Giang and Bac Lieu provinces in particular, and the Southwestern region in general. This will effectively utilize major national transport infrastructure projects.
Furthermore, the Ho Chi Minh Highway construction project, specifically the Rach Soi - Ben Nhat and Go Quao - Vinh Thuan sections, plays a crucial role for Kien Giang and Bac Lieu provinces. Upon completion, it will connect Go Quao, Hong Dan, and Vinh Thuan districts by road (replacing the three existing ferries).
This area is home to many ethnic minority communities, where economic conditions are still difficult. It has great potential for developing aquaculture and is a major rice and fruit growing region, but it lacks a commensurate road network to exploit its advantages.
Issuing the order to commence this project, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Duy Lam requested the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board, consulting units, and contractors to take the highest responsibility, demonstrating the spirit of "overcoming the sun and rain," urgently developing specific plans and appropriate construction methods, mobilizing sufficient manpower, machinery, and equipment to focus on implementing construction to ensure quality, progress, safety, and environmental hygiene.
Strictly adhere to all legal regulations and project technical guidelines, prevent corruption, misconduct, and violations, and complete the project on time as stipulated in the signed contract.
The Deputy Minister of Transport requested that Kien Giang and Bac Lieu provinces continue to pay attention to and direct the early completion of all land clearance work, especially for resettlement areas and the relocation of technical infrastructure; arrange waste disposal sites, and prioritize the supply of sufficient raw materials for the project.
The two provinces continue to direct local authorities to coordinate and create favorable conditions for the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board and construction units throughout the project's implementation; and to strengthen inspection work to ensure security, order, and traffic safety in the project area.
