From title to real competitive advantage

Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade said that in the pre-merger period, the selection of typical rural industrial products had achieved encouraging results. Of which, in 2024, 25 products were recognized as typical products at the regional level. This number reflects the diversity of industries and dynamism of businesses and production facilities.

Inheriting those achievements, in 2025, Can Tho City will have 5 product sets from 5 establishments honored as nationally outstanding, including Dried Mango (Ba Suong Company), products from snakehead fish (Ky Nhu Cooperative), Pia cake (Duy Tan, Hai Son) and Chinese sausage (Hue An)... This is a clear demonstration of the quality and great potential of local rural industrial products.

Can Tho identifies that voting is not the destination but the starting point for a journey of comprehensive value addition. Immediately after a product is honored, a series of in-depth support activities, designed to closely follow industrial promotion policies, will be activated.

Instead of providing general support, the city focuses on perfecting the "commercial appearance" of the product. Facilities are consulted and supported with funding to redesign packaging and labels in a professional, modern direction, not only ensuring food safety and hygiene standards but also telling the story of local culture. The sausage product, which was once only wrapped in a simple nylon bag, now has vacuum packaging, beautifully printed with a QR code to trace its origin, ready to be placed on the shelves of large supermarkets.

To expand distribution channels, in addition to participating in fairs, typical products are given priority to connect directly with the purchasing departments of supermarket systems, convenience store chains and large distributors. Business-to-business (B2B) connection sessions are held regularly, creating opportunities for products to reach the right business customers and export units.

Facilities are trained in depth on e-commerce, supported in building genuine booths on reputable platforms and promoted through the media channels of the industry and trade sector to increase the presence of products in the digital space.

Thanks to that, the reputation of typical products is no longer just a title on paper, but has transformed into real competitive strength in the market.

Build a focused, key promotional strategy

In addition to the achievements, promoting the value of typical rural industrial products still faces many challenges. Many production facilities, although of good quality, are limited in capital, management capacity and scale, making the sustainable development process difficult. Trade promotion and product promotion activities are still scattered, lacking long-term strategies, especially in exploiting e-commerce and expanding exports. Many facilities are still hesitant to innovate, slow to invest in technology and improve designs. The main reasons are said to be limited resources, short-term vision, unsynchronized coordination between related parties, along with modest support from the State.

To overcome the limitations and maximize the value of typical rural industrial products, Can Tho City will synchronously deploy many specific groups of solutions.

First of all, the city continues to regularly maintain annual voting activities, while improving the quality and transparency of the process, ensuring fairness and objectivity to honor truly worthy products with development potential and competitiveness in the market.

Regarding trade promotion and market development activities, Can Tho will develop a focused and key promotion strategy for award-winning products. Establishments and businesses will be given priority to participate in large-scale fairs at home and abroad, connect with modern distribution systems, and receive training in sales skills on digital platforms and e-commerce to expand the sustainable consumption market.

In supporting the improvement of production and management capacity, the city will continue to implement programs to innovate technology and production equipment, especially in the fields of deep processing, post-harvest preservation and packaging. At the same time, it will organize training courses on business administration, brand building, intellectual property registration, and application of international quality management standards such as ISO, HACCP, etc.

In addition, Can Tho will step up support for businesses to access preferential capital sources to expand production scale, innovate technology and improve productivity.
