Despite economic hardship, the pet industry still sees double-digit growth

That was shared by Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quang Thong - Head of the Veterinary Animal Husbandry Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, Chairman of the Vietnam Small Animal Veterinary Association (VSAVA) - at the event "Pet Festival" (Super Pet Fest) on October 19.

According to Mr. Thong, in 2023, despite economic difficulties, the pet industry in Vietnam will still go against the trend, growing by 35%. "It is expected that in the next 5 years, the growth rate will continue to maintain double digits," Mr. Thong said.

However, Mr. Thong also noted that in order to exploit market potential, service providers such as food, toys, and especially veterinary services need to equip themselves with more knowledge, improve product and service quality, meet the needs of pet owners, and ensure sustainable development of the entire industry.

Similarly, Ms. Do Thi Mong Tho, Vice President of VSAVA, commented: "In the past, dogs and cats were only seen as tools to guard the house and catch mice. But in recent years, more and more people have seen them as family members, confidants, helping to reduce stress in life and work."

According to Ms. Tho, with the development of life and income, many owners do not hesitate to spend a lot of money on dogs and cats, willing to pamper their "pets" with high-quality food, toys, health care, beauty, wishing to bring the best conditions for their pets.

Assessing the potential of this industry, Ms. Jane Luxner, Agricultural Attaché, US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, also agreed: "In Vietnam as well as in the United States, pets are increasingly appreciated. The pet food and care industry in Vietnam still has great potential for development."

The Pet Festival is part of the Pet Health Month that officially launched in Vietnam in October. The event attracted the participation of more than 20 booths covering many fields such as food, accessories, toys, fur care, pet beauty...

In addition to the exhibition, the event also organizes specialized seminars with the participation of veterinarians and experts in the field, as well as activities to exchange, connect, and share care experiences with experts.

The series of events, organized by the Vietnam Small Animal Veterinary Association (VSAVA) in collaboration with the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), will last throughout October, bringing many meaningful activities to the pet-loving community in Vietnam.
